For a major school project, I’ve been told I need a “mentor” (someone to just ask a few questions, once). They need to be someone with a career relating to what I’m doing in some way, which is some napkin-math theorycrafting for WoW on a google sheets doc. Does anyone know what type of career would have something to do with spreadsheets/etc?
Just about any career, these days…
I’ve seen spreadsheets used for project management, doing architecture of buildings, modeling and simulation of events, oh and of course accounting. There are more abuses of spreadsheets than there are uses
Say some more about “theorycrafting” please. The WoW Wiki (umm WoW2?) says:
Theorycraft is the attempt to mathematically analyze game mechanics in order to gain a better understanding of the inner workings of the game. The term originated in the Starcraft community as composite colloquialism between the name Starcraft and Game Theory.
But I’m a little lost about how you want to use it with WoW. There are a ton of people here on CD that are amazing with the use of statistics and analysis of FRC games. Look for people that post good comments about “OPR”. Jaci recently has some amazing indepth looks at the behind the numbers. Ether is my favorite with number crunching the numbers. So look for OPR posts with them and see who other people are that participate, they would be good people to talk to.
Warning though, most of those people are not spreadsheet crunchers … the math gets pretty serious.
Good luck!!
Thanks for the responses. I’ll ask around then.
And the theorycrafting is just crunching numbers through a spreadsheet for the most part (If ability X does YZ damage, and is cast every AB seconds, with a C chance to be cast instantly, etc). The really difficult part would be deep analysis, but I don’t really have the mathematical knowledge to do that. Current draft is here
