do think you can have both, an articulated shooter, a belt system and enough space for a climbing mechanism with the new perimeter rules? that is where we are debating currently…
You’ll have to do some calcs to figure that out. There are multiple strategies to do all of that on a single robot, so figure that out, then look at some estimates on space.
I’ll stick my neck out right now and say I don’t think so. Now prove me wrong and your hopes right.
Is it possible? Yes. But probably not for the vast majority of teams in FRC.
Given some of the past robots I’ve seen from both 207 and 842, I do think those are 2 teams that could do it all…
I know this is still an early prototype, but were you thinking of having polycord very low and close to the scoop to grab the frisbee? Or more like an articulated scoop?
Yes we are going to lower the bottom roller and our climbing mechanism will be on both sides of our arm. Go down to the diagram of our climbing concept, Not fully fleshed yet. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1B05O0qHAEvxla_RLT0TvCsbI-4RpRINyiRUz8GtISI0/edit
Instead of a student, maybe a big foam wheel above the scoop can push it into the polycord? Maybe re-use a slice of last year’s basketball?
Foam wheel…Not bad… Its something we want to avoid if we can, but we might do it. We do plan on having our roller lower, so it won’t take much to get it on…The polycord also need backing so it does not sag so much in some places. The angle of our may be lower as well. The CADers are behind the build team, so we are messing around…
Are you using the same type of carpet (pile/density) as the official field? I’ve heard conflicting rumors about how difficult it is to get underneath discs laying on the carpet without some sort of assist to propel them. If you can confirm viability, can I ask how thick your scoop is? I’m assuming 1/16" or 1/32", but did you do anything special to it or just snag a piece of scrap?
Thanks! I’m still trying to get a piece of the official stuff.
I believe its 1/16 and is pretty flexible. As long as you have the end pressed down far enough so it is parallel to the floor it slides very well. You can file the edges and corners to make it even better. If you spray Silicone spray in it, and wipe it off, it will slide even more. The carpet I found over the years if pretty much the indoor outdoor carpet that you can find at Home depot. Even if its not we never had a problem if there was a difference in the carpet. The co efficient of friction difference is negligible for a 120 lbs robot.
