I am one of the scouting leaders for me team, and I was wondering what people are doing for scouting at the regionals this year. What abilities/ skills are people looking at? What qualities are your team deeming the most important? Thank you.
Scouting can be a simple or as indepth as you want. At the very least, track the number of points scored by each team in a match. This allows you to get a good idea on the first pick. The second pick however, is much more subjective as there is no good objective way to measure defensive ablilty.
What I’m going to be looking at this year are:
Win/loss (not for picking, but to get an idea of the top 8 seeds early on)
Times balaced with 1/2/3 robots
Shots made high/mid/low
Shots successful high/mid/low
Cross bump passes
Estimated time to balance

This all goes to a spreadsheey to be analysed. I calculate OPR based on the match score for a number at events that I can’t be at (if you don’t know what it is, there have been several threads about it)

I have columns on my scouting spreadsheet for how many baskets they can hit, whether they can go over the bump, the bridges, or both, what type of drive they have, and what their drivers were trained for.
If you haven’t found it already, go to the Scouting subforum within the Rules/Strategy forum ( http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=6 )
There you willl fin several scouting sheets and programs developed by teams.
Download them and look them over.
Out of the plethora of choices, I’m sure you will find something that will work for you.
Good luck.
