Hi,
Team 111 is hard at work on a match based scouting application for the Palm. We are also looking for othere teams to share in the scouting with us at regionals and nationals. If you (or anybody else) is interested or would just want more information, please send me a PM, or email ( [email protected] )
Brian
We’ve got one coming along. Talk to Neal Turett (another CD user on my team) about it. More to come on www.feds201.com later!
Our Team (# 710) has put together a Scouting Application for the Palm Os to coordinate with a Filemaker Database
Infact just using Filemaker Mobile
We have set up a quick and extremely effective scouting system
With extreme Reports with tons of different statitstics
Any Questions just Pm me

Yeah Brian and team are working so hard, they haven’t had time to tell SOAP what fields and datatypes they’re uploading yet… no worries though! Our partnership has come a long way. Our reaction time is hours, not weeks.
p.s. For the new folks out there the all WASH data collected on the Palms is (1) compiled into one db local to an event, and (2) uploaded to the SOAP db and shared on our website. Think of it this way, by contributing to WASH you help the entire FIRST Community.
Thanks to all participants! If you’re not one yet, send Brian a PM. I’m sure there’s an event or three they have no representation at yet…especially on the West Coast.

Well 710’s system is comming along quite well and will be finished this weekend ( If not earlier ) we have the palms rearing and ready to go
Working on how we’ll export in mass, if you are running filemaker 5.5 we can make data dumps
if not we can print it out… or right now it looks like we will be exporting reports into a text document or excel document of some kind, however none the best way to get information will be to come to our booth where we will have easy access set up on a screen and a printer to get data print outs
If anyone has questions about it feel free to email me at [email protected] especially you soap guys being that our teams are extremely close together in prox. We could really help each other out here

Go Paperless!! If you’ve already commited to FMP, check out File Maker Mobile 2.0.
Yeah, we’re practically neighbors. We could try to publish your records on the web similar to how we’ll handle the WASH (wildstang.org) data.
Basically we need:
<FieldName> <DataType>
Better? is a copy of the fp5 file. We can ODBC to it and try and pull records… Hopefully you have a primary key set up. Is this Match data or Pit data?
p.s. We have no need for Scoring data at this time…
KA-108
LoL 3 steps ahead of yah, only reason why we integrated into FMP is because of Mobile
We have the palms up and rearin, The paper = just for reports so people can have hard copy easier than trying to upload after every couple matches
we’ll also most likely set up a pit system so people can do almost everything by themselves ( workin on getting some lcd monitors for easy access to it )
We want everything real time and not have to wait for it to be exported to the web, if we can our Webmaster to put one of his servers on filemaker its a diff story, We’ll have almost instant uploads after every match ( and for nationals because he has a 10 meb dedicated there it would be almost unmatchably fast )
Ohh and about scoring, I beg to differ if I understand you correctly. My team and I believe that the quanatative data collected in matches would be much superior in getting an idea of how good a bot is than a qualatative one.
Last year when we would scout people would tell us ( i’m sorry to say ) a bunch of malarky ( thought I was gonna swear didn’t you ) we would go out and watch them in a match and they would suck it up, and could do absolutely nothing they said they could do, OR they would have an amazing bot with no one who could drive it. The problem with a qualatative analysis is 2 people look at things differently so unless you stick the same guy out in the field oppinions will change, even on the course of a day one persons oppinion will change on which is more important
That is why we have devised a system of qualatative and quanatative scouting to give us actual Robot Efficiency Data, the raw numbers and averages are irrefutable. We’ve put a lot of consideration into how to make the system fair and unbaised to certain bot types realizing that all bots are indeed equally important, ( right now working on exactly how you give defensive bots numeric credit where numeric credit is due )
We believe that with out quanatative information your scouting is incomplete, but none the less without qualatative also your incomplete
Ps. I bet we live even closer than you think My teams in ft. laudy daudy ( lauderdale ) but i’m in plantation

No, I agree that the scoring data can be real useful. What was meant: we capture this already.
I’d like to see what ‘stats’ you calculate. Notice something new added from last year’s data (http://www.soap108.com/2002/stats/streaks/) and will be incorporated into this year’s.
We had tried a BCS-like figure of merit in the past, but it never ranked undefeated Miami teams #1… go figure!
KA-108
How do you capture it, and what exact info do you capture? mayb it will lesson the load of our scouting team a little
