Our team was discussing possible issues with field elements or FIRST wanting to slow down the swerve drive teams that blaze across the fields last couple of years. Since our team is staying with our upgraded Mk3 swerve modules based on costs to replace with newer ones we were looking to see if there are any teams that have designed and 3d printed protective shrouds for their SDS Modules in the past seasons.
Here are the SDS MK4i covers we designed last season. They worked out very well for us in that we have never had to clean the gears of our units. No carpet fuzz, tape, or note debris get into our units. We only do maintenance/cleaning of the bevel gears and add grease to the main gears before each competition.
These swerve covers simply clip onto the vertical spacers of the swerve units and were inspired by the clever design of Ajax Bachor . However, our design fully encloses the gearing of the MK4i units. Further, the covers accommodate 40mm muffin fans with snap-on filters to slightly pressurize the swerve units with clean air to keep carpet debris and other junk out. We have shared step files for the covers on GrabCAD here
The 2 red dots really made me think a pixel went out on my new monitor.
