SDS MK4i Chassis

Our team is going to be working on a Swerve Drive Specialties MK4/MK4i swerve drivetrain this offseason. I was wondering what chassis other teams have come up with for the MK4i modules. Pictures/CAD drawings are appreciated. Any help is appreciated!

You can look at our OnShape CAD that compares the MK4 vs MK4i.

I’m pretty sure that the MK4I is designed to act as the corners of your chassis. So just have some 2x1 tubing to go between them. Also almost all of the top teams this year have used the MK4I so just take a look at their robot’s and chassis for inspiration. I’ve seen a few of these in person if you have any other questions.

Thanks to the SDS swerve modules there is not a whole lot of design that needs to go into your drivetrain. The only thing that needs to be thought through is your frame perimeter. I recommend making it a decent bit smaller that the max frame perimeter and designing it for the game, for example in 2020 the trench. I think a good starting point is probably in a sketch just playing around with the game object and a general layout of what you think will be your main mechanisms and see how much space you need to fit them comfortably.

And make sure it goes through a normal door with bumpers on
You could make the robot inspector’s life a tiny bit easier if the corner posts were sleeved with plastic to match the corner radius of the top and bottom plates…
