I think we could all use with an excuse to be happy and laugh. So mentors with children let’s see them at events or meetings.
(Human children in this case, there’s already a thread for shop fur babies)

My kid didn’t make it to any events this year, for obvious reasons. But he did get his 1st event under his belt in 2019 at only 6 months old!
Can I post for my dad who dragged me to every 228 meeting when I was a child? Here’s my favorite picture of me around 7 years old down in Epcot
Edit: I still have that shirt
fur anybody wondering…
The title of your thread implies that the mentors are also FIRST alumni (which I am not) so I am guessing my son’s won’t count.
The father of one of the most accomplished FLL teams in the Houston area was on an FRC team in the second year of FRC. I think he said there were only 20 teams in total at that time.
Yeah I struggled with the name tbh.
Really - a lot of folks here are parents and they’ve brought their kids to events. Or many of us were kids at events.
Any of it works. The point isn’t to adhere to silly rules I just wanna give folks a chance to be a little happier and share a part of their lives.
The world is too dang dark right now, so I’m trying to encourage something that’s happier.
No problem. I was just taking your title literally.
Taking “Second Generation” in a different direction, it has been really fulfilling to see alumni of many of the FLL teams I have helped coach or mentor now taking on leadership positions in some of our local powerhouse teams and coach/mentor FLL teams (that do well enough to win awards). Two of them started FLL-focused YouTube channels in recent months and have steadily gained viewers.
It is quite likely that if you have been mentoring for a while, you too will have situations like this. We’re not just building robots, we’re building some of the leaders of tomorrow
I love seeing students come back as mentors! In 2018 SuperNURDs did a 10-year reunion party, and I got a pic with some of my former students who have now been mentors for several years:
I don’t have any good ones, but I’m sure my mom @vmm has some from me and my little sister at events as kids. If you’re in NE and see a 10-year old coming up to you with a scouting tablet, it’s probably my little sister. She’s one of the best scouts I know
At our very last meeting before everything shut down my daughter was helping me label wires and put stickers on the bot.
Got a new shirt for her and jacket for me made by one of our team parents who bought screen printing equipment. Never got to wear it to an event this year but had to try them on while staying home!
My Dad isn’t an alum but has been mentoring and more recently volunteering with FIRST since I started high school (this shot is from a few years back).
@David_Bridge please bless this forum with your adorable babies.
Bridge is a 177 alum, his kids are my favorite babies.
