Segway

I don’t know about the other regionals but west michigan had a segway and one of our members got to ride it. it was supposed to be VIPs only but there wasn’t a line yet and the guy took pity on him. It was so cool. All i know is that it was one of the best parts about being there…besides being with the Dawgs and team 71 in finals…west michigan was great.

At the J&J Bart let members from the winning alliance ride his segway. There were about 15 people from 340 who got a chance to ride it. He was really great in letting us ride. Nobody else was even around to use it. Thanks Bart, you rule.

A whole punch of people from 461 got to ride segways at the Midwest Regional…

I must say, very very cool!

FINALLY, in Evanston, I got to ride the Segway.

I couldn’t balance, for some reason… I kept moving forward even when standing perfectly still. Weird. So I guess I’m Segway disabled?

if you try to balance yourself it freaks out…thats what i found out…then once i let it balance itself it was SUPER SWEET LIKE NINJAS!

I have been fortunate enough to be able to ride on a segway several times. In one of the Segway promo vids, Dean says that it is like having your feet replaced with wheels. Yeah. It is exactly like that. I am just about $5,000 short of having enough money to buy one. The first time I got to ride, Dean was there…It was soo cool. Go to here for pics and a vid.

And for anyone that is hooked on 'em, check out http://www.segwaychat.com.

Cheers!

i was soo pumped to be able to ride the segway at the midwest regional!! i’m still pumped about it!!

when i was on the technokats, they all got to ride a segway one day…i just happened to have had mono REALLY bad, and i was really really sick that day…and someone called me and said, hey guess what i’m doing right now…riding a segway…talk about mean!!! i was still bitter about it until i finially had my chance!! woohoo!!! i rode a segway!!!

They also had a couple of segway’s at BAE and anyone could ride one. Basically it seemed you either rode it like a natural (like me) or couldn’t balance at all.

molly remind me to show you the 461 segway computer desktop i made the other day. Its super sweet:)

I think the funniest thing was seeing people like myself who couldn’t balance and their facial expressions… even in the picture on Delphi I sure look funny!

Even more, seeing the Purdue kids riding the Segways like they’d been at it all their lives. Chris Noble hopped on it and rode around like it was nothing… I moved a quarter of an inch and flipped out.

At FOSE (a government computer expo in washington dc) there were 4 segways at the Palm booth, and a freekishly short line. It was shorter than the line to get into booths with lots of free stuff. To balance, you have to look up and around at stuff, not down at the controlls. (which is what i kept doing). I found it hard to stop by leaning back, maybe i should have stood farther back on platform. I also don’t like the turning thing on the left hand, it doesn’t seem to go with the rest of the look/feel.

Oh well, i got to ride a segway (and get free segway stickers–“Join the Evolution” and “My other car is a Segway”), so i can’t complain.

Excited to be in Houston tonight!

I got to ride one too in Seattle…I don’t know exactly why but it just did whatever I wanted it to…no real problems controlling it. It was a lot of fun though.

You are right it is a good idea to look up and around. Getting on was the weirdest part because you can feel it is very sensitive but once you are on it does just what you want. The closest thing I can compare it to are those dreams when you are flying because you are moving at a constant pace and you really don’t have to think about what you are doing because it is so simple to ride. I did have to lean backwards a little when I wanted to stop too but that’s kind of automatic too.

Got to ride one on Friday. Pics soon. But what’s different about my ride? Well, lets just say I got to use the RED KEY!

The Innovation first guys where staying at our hotel in Houston for nats. Although curfew was at 11:00, about 8 of us where out on the basketball court at 1:00 am (hehe) riding there Segways for a good 45 minutes. It was AWESOME. out past curfew? i’m telling mr. b!

i think we’re going to try and build some segways…has anyone else attempted this?

I’ve got a handful of pots, a couple gyros, and an 2000 robot controller… I’m going for it

<edit> and a couple of random motors </edit>

My friend and I both got to ride Steve Wozniac’s Segway at the Silicon valley regional. Here are some pics.

i got to ride a segway twice, lucky me :p.

once at SBPLI, i forget the lady, but she was from DEKA, and had a segway, and let everyone ride. pictures are up somewhere.

second time, I was at WPI, for a big thing on what to look for in college, and they had a segway or two zipping around. my mom and grandmother went to the bathroom, and i had nothing to do, and i saw a student on a segway, so i went over and kinda stood looking longingly at it, and she asked if i wanted to try it. i think i was on it before she finished talking ;). and that one didn’t have the trainer key in it, so it was pretty fast :D.
