Thank you for making this thread! You have given me a reason to clean off my desk in the morning.
I didn’t clean off my desk. I even left the stickynotes with all my passwords, in the image! So zoom in, like they do on the detective shows on TV, and read them.
The case is an old mini ATX or something that I did some cutting and manipulating on, so that it’s now upside down. Because the power supply and drives should be on the bottom, and you need to be able to get inside without having to move anything, open any doors, remove any screws, etc. It hides behind the monitor, because that’s the most efficient place for it to be. The mobo and cpu are from 2013, it’s an i5, with a whopping 8g of ram, a 500g SSD, 1Tb HD. Windows 10 has been installed since the beginning of the year, because they gave up on 7. Oh well. There’s a cute little graphics card that is slightly faster than the on chip graphics. The monitors are over 10 years old, the pixels in them are big enough that I can read text without reading glasses, and I’m almost 60 years old. 1992 vintage Model M Space Saver keyboard, and an old MS optical mouse. Because I’m set in my ways.
Behind me, is the fun computer…
AMD Ryzen 5 2600
GTX 1660 Super
16 GB DDR4 3000 Mhz
512 GB M.2
2 TB Hard drive
Left monitor: 1680x1050 60hz
Right monitor: 1920x1080 144hz
Includes a mess if wires, 3dp projects, a 3d printer, a drum head, and some game pieces.
10 streams at a time anyone? Let’s just say my roommates weren’t so happy about the WiFi speed that night.

None of the computers have amazing specs, but together they all do their job well. The whole system is wired through a network switch to facilitate quick file transfers between the computers. And all the devices are connected to a central set of speakers with a switch to control the input.
My middle son asked for LCD’s and a new brown-key mechanical keyboard for his birthday. That room looks like starwars when his brother’s computer is turned on right next to this one.
I think I speak for a large chunk of FIRST when I ask why there isn’t a box fan on the market with LED’s built in. Seems like a big market miss.
Desktop (circa late 2015): i7 6700K, 16GB RAM, GTX 970, Windows/Arch Dualboot
Laptop (ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 2): i7 9850H, 32GB RAM, GTX 1650 MAX-Q
Keyboard: Corsair K95 Platinum
Mice: Logitech G602
Monitors: Dell S2415H (going to put one vertical at some point)
Audio: Drop x Sennheiser PC37x driven by a Schiit Fulla 3
Yes, that is a Wii sensor bar under the center monitor.
I’ve got a comfy setup in the corner of my room. Got my first mechanical keyboard (Logitech G413, great for the price) a few days ago and am loving it so far.
All running off my dell G5. My only complaint is unplugging and replugging in 3 wires whenever I take it anywhere (there’s no real dock for it available)
Also running low on storage so if anyone has a recommendation for external storage that won’t break the bank I would appreciate it.
The best stuff on my desk is not the computer:
1 SQFT mousepad
Keyboard with CAD-optimized layout
Slim recessed LED downlights
Herman Miller Mirra chair
I just have a laptop and a second monitor and the desk is a bit of a mess, so I am not posting a picture either. However, the other day, I was searching for a computer chair and came across what I want my next setup to be.
I believe you can mount 2 or 3 monitors.
Bit of a mess but oh well
Intel I7-8700
16BG of Ram
Some Gigabyte Mother Board that I dont remember the name of
GTX 1060
256gb M.2 as my main drifve
1TB SSD & 3TB HDD
Then For Periphrials
Logitech G910 (keyboard), G502 Hero (mouse), And G933 (Headset)
2 side monitors are 22/23" (I dont remember which) AOC 1080p and the main monitor is an MSI OPTIX 24" GC SERIES 144HZ GAMING MONITOR (curved at 1080p)
I also have a Cyberpower CP1000AVRLCD 1000VA/600W UPS System
Took this a couple months back
Common question: Why the ultra wide on the side? A: The middle monitor is a 144hz and I prefer it there for gaming.
It isn’t a chair. It is a space shuttle:smile:
Where did you buy that?
15" MacBook Pro, i7, 16GB, Iris Pro, SSD, 27" Thunderbolt Cinema Display
(and a real keyboard & mouse for when s— gets real)
6600k/32GB/Vega56 in the corner. Proxmox server, FreeNAS servers, and UniFi setup are in another room.
Steelcase Leap is the real MVP.
It is my desired next setup. I have not bought it… yet. A couple things will have to happen first. One, it will probably be after our, hopefully not too far off, post-retirement move. Two, I have to figure out how to broach the subject with my wife. No, really, I do need it, and it will look fine over here.
