After creating a new tab and putting widgets on it, we can display SmartDashboard data.
But when we go to save the layout (manually or automatically at close) all we get is an empty file. The file is created, but it’s size 0.
Also, Shuffleboard is not loading automatically… we need to load it manually.
Related? I don’t know…

Are your Eclipse plugins (including shuffleboard) up to date?
Seconded. It sounds like you’re running into this problem, which has been fixed and pushed in the 1.2.0 release last Friday (Feb 9)
Well, I certainly haven’t updated since last friday 
How would I go about making sure I have the latest update?
I’m a veteran programmer, but really new to Eclipse plugins etc.
How is Shuffleboard related to Eclipse?
I assumed it was just bundled with the Update Suite (like the driver station and Smart Dashboard), but I guess not.
Can someone assume I’m a dummy (pretty accurate) and tell me 1) how to get access to this update and 2) make sure that’s it’s what I’m running?

If it says “no updates found” then you are good.
OK. Downloaded an update.
It looks like it was updated from the base 1.0.0 version.
That’s much better now. It’s saving the layouts.
It’s an interesting concept to me (and probably others) that these “programs” are “plugins” and actually managed through eclipse.
I’ll have the kids keep on top of these updates now.
