The Silicon Valley regional is over, and the result was quite interesting…or not:)
Let’s look at the record from last year first…two of the teams from champ alliance from last year’s competition was team 254 and team 60. Two of the teams from the finalist alliance from last year was team 115 (us), and team 376…
This year, two of the finalists were team 376 and team 115, and two of the champs were team 254 and team 60:o
Not only that, one of the team in third place was team 192, who, also happened to be in the third place last year:p
Over all, the games were exciting and competition was great. Thanks to the team 701(correction, my bad*) for picking us, and all the other teams for making the regional fun.
Being a rookie, this competition was quite an experience.
however…
the last match we played, we scored all the points, and our alliance members ended up scoring for the other teams.
when finals came around, we didn’t get picked, and they did.
Our performance was phenomenal, and we basically did most of the point scoring in all the matches we were in.
Does anyone want to explain possibly why we wouldn’t get picked?

Team 846 THE FUNKY MONKEYS
Lynbrook High School, San Jose
I saw you guys Lynbrook. YOu guys did awesome. I was the guy in the big red foam cowboy hat. Its unfortunate you didn’t get picked. did you guys acvertise well? it could be a prejudice against rookie teams. thats too bad. Good luck next year, you guys will rock. and show all those teams that didn’t pick you why they were wrong.
192…chairman’s made day all better. Good comp all!
Don’t forget the robot with the broken sprockets…without their choice, I don’t think we could have gotten second place!!!
Anyway, the Silicon Valley Regionals were great ( esp. the Hawaiian chocolate) . I hope that Nats will be too. Congrats to Kingman, BCP, and all the other finalists
( LYNBROOK: you guys did GREAT!!! Get Revenge at NATS!!!)
Well… I have to say… Lynbrook had an AWESOME robot, especially for a rookie team. Being the head of scouting for my team (192), I’ll admit I had you guys on our list of robots that we would want to be allied with for the elims. If we had been one of the top 8 seeds, I would definitely have tried to make sure our team captain recognized you guys. As it was, we were picked, and didn’t really have the luxury of picking. I was shocked when none of the top seeds picked you. Anyway, I hope you guys kick some butt in nats… you definitely have the potential. I look forward to seeing you there… as long as it isn’t as our opponents in elims
846, for a rookie team your design was really good. I did team staging for SV and so i saw every match. I was really impressed by your design. I hope you get picked at the nat’s.
Lynbrook - you guys had a great bot; i agree with pete (azn_dawg) as i was on doing scouting with him, totally suprising you guys didn’t get picked.
Also thanks to Santa Rosa (609) and Sea Dawgs (258) and all the teams that cheered for us and our alliances. Thank you Art (840) for picking us and New Tech (814) as alliance partners for the finals.
Congrats to Cheesy Poofs (254), Kingman (60), and Waialua (359) for winning regionals, and Team 701, Newark (376), and Monta Vista (115) for being finalists. Not to mention all the award winners…
oh yeah - all the kids at those elementary schools, the most awesomest ever and all of GRT
Hey KaworuShiro-
I have access to a copy of the NASA footage that aired on NASA tv, and also the footage our team members took. If you’d like a VHS or DV tape of it, email me with your info and I’ll try to get that to you!

Chris…i am sorry your team did not get picked. I really am. Not only did i think you had a phenomenal robot, the few people i spoke to from your team were both friendly and professional. I can only speculate that you did not get picked because the teams in the top 8 were not enough aware of your team. Those of us who did scouting were very impressed with your robot, but i cannot recall anything exceptional your team did as far as advertising goes. I’m still amazed that our team got picked, having bombed most of our matches. I can only guess that we got picked because 973 happened to be familiar with our team, and we are eternally grateful for their partnership.
So next year, Funky Monkeys, i want to hear your team name shouted all over the arena. The Apes of Wrath seemed to have a monopoly on monkey-related giveaways, but i know you can do even better. For new rookie teams, go out and meet other teams. Advertise. Flaunt your abilties shamelessly. No one will ever have a flawless robot their first year, and most teams will never have a flawless strategy, so making other teams aware of your presence is the only way to secure a spot in the finals. I hope you do better next year.
