Hello all,
we don’t have our KOP yet, and as I could understand, the thumb drive with the reimaging files are in the KOP.
so… is it necessary to do it? can’t I just install labview update, FRC utility update and driver station update?

For the 2011 classmate key, the reimage includes Windows 7. I believe the 2010 reimage does as well? I’m guessing this will be mandatory if that’s the case.

There’s no reason you can’t treat the Classmate the same as any other laptop, and forgo the reimaging.
Only the Driver Station application is required by the rules for competition.
I originally didn’t reimage our Classmate and just installed the new software just for testing.
We decided to changeover to Windows 7 to see if it helps with the USB power problems and other oddities of sleep mode experienced last season.
We’re considering buying another Classmate (or similar netbook) since we obtained another cRio and won’t be tearing down last year’s robot.
I’m trying to decide whether to get the CTL (KOP) model or buy something similar.
The Toshiba L635 looks interesting…
But does anyone know…
If we get the CTL E11, is the 2011 flash update available?
If not, or if we get the Toshiba, or other model, is there information on how to set it up like the original netbook so that it boots into the Driver account etc.
Thanks…
If you get a new netbook then there’s really no reason to reimage it from an FRC stick. The reimage just got us Windows 7 and created Driver and Developer user accounts.
The only required user account is “Driver” and you can create that yourself. The only thing special about it is the exact name used-FMS checks for that at competition.
Then install the required Driver Station Update and you should be ready for competition.
The FRC 2011 image no longer automatically boots into the Driver account, but you can change that yourself. I posted instructions in another post that I can repeat if you need it.
win7 (2011 image for 2010 classmate) has been giving us some problems,
to compete at a regional do we need to have windows7 on our classmate?
is there a problem with just applying the updates to the 2010 image (for use at regionals)?
Since the 2011 Game Rule is any laptop can be used, there aren’t any special requirements about which OS is on the Classmate. It’s just another laptop for competition purposes.
You probably want to remove the old LabVIEW and install the new one.
For Competition, at the minimum, you need:
