I just took a look at some of the archived videos in SOAP (http://www.soap.circuitrunners.com) for the championship and realized immediately that the video encoding was messed up. About every three seconds the video looks good, but then blocks of the frames are shifted in a random direction, leaving a blurred streak behind. It seems to be messed up for every division, not just Newton. I guess the videos need to be re-encoded?
I noticed that too. Some of the later videos are ok but mostly all of them are bad. Some of them just stopped playing and a message came up saying that the video was corrupted.
Yeah, it appears that starting around match 40 the encoding is no longer corrupt, but it is still annoying that it is messed up like this.
Match 5 in arcamedies will only play the first 15 seconds. Match 15 goes the whole way, but is blocky. All it does is leave me with the intense need to shout: Arc-a-med-ies which is annoying my cat.
[strike]It is probably just a player issue with the codec version. If so, try a different player (like vlc) or updating your codecs. If you could, give me a list of a few matches that have this error and I will look into to the problem asap.[/strike]
Update: I have examined arc matches 5 & 15 and it appears the upload went sour. The online video is corrupt, where the original is perfectly fine. Our internet access has been sketchy because of a bad router. (we just replaced it) I will try to start uploading and overwriting all championship matches asap. I don’t have enough time or patience to go through each video and pick out the rotten ones, so we’ll have to do a bulk update. I will keep everyone informed. I am really sorry about the errors guys.
Did Soap record all of the finals for each division? The directories are currently incomplete for all except for Curie.
Thank you (and all of the SigmaCats) for all of your hard work. SOAP is awesome for those of us who can’t be at competitions and for scouting.
After fixing the championship videos, don’t forget about this thread: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56331
It looks like there are also issues with the Galileo matches … or maybe it’s my issue although I’ve never seen this before:
- I’m using OSX win Media player 9 …
- I’ve downloaded all 7 of the 1712 qualifying matches (6, 17, 30, 50, 66. 87, 102)
- The audio for each match plays fine all the way through, but each vid stick a few seconds in - at the same place every time. I’ve restarted, played other videos with no problem, etc…
- I’m assming the issue is with me, but I’m not 100% sure …
Any thought?
The videos haven’t been reuploaded yet, so many are still corrupt. Since you are using Mac instad of Windows, it probably interprets the video differently and pauses the video instead of making it blocky.
Awesome, thanks for repsonse. I’ll wait for the reupload. THANKS to everyone for their hard work on this!
I just arrived home and I have all of the laptops used for encoding with me. All of Curie and the first 30 matches of Archimedes were reuploaded while we were at the dome. I will begin to work on the remainder of the videos tonight. They should be done by tomorrow early morning.
We had some issues with Einstein yesterday and I may need to do some chopping up of the master video we recorded alongside of the one used for divided encoding which may take some time. This may not be completed by tomorrow morning.
Thanks to everyone for your support!
I don’t know if anyone else is having this problem, but part of the way through arc_qf4m1.wmv and arc_qf4m2.wmv windows media stops and doesnt let me veiw the rest. Something about an encoding error.
I’m not complaining at you, I just want to watch the matchs I missed, you guys at SOAP are great for putting these up.
Please read post number five and be a bit patient. I may not be part of 108, but I know it takes a while for an entire (or even partial) overhaul of anything that has to do with video.
I saw that, I just wanted him to know that those are bad, I don’t know if the whole section is or not, but I looks like these were just uploaded.
Out of curiosity, did SOAP record DaVinci?
(I can’t wait to see the Einstein videos–I most certainly <3 SOAP.)
Did the .wme file used to encode the events change between the season and nationals? I had almost no problem with any of the videos from any of the events during the season, but it seems that a bit less than half of the ones from Atlanta are corrupt in the middle. I’m curious as to why on a technical level. The hardware was likely the same, so it must be a configuration problem with the recording. Does anyone from SOAP have any speculations on why?
Just checking, but you have read this thread and checked up on SOAP recently, right? If not, look at the original post by Mat Keller above and check out the new videos on SOAP. Yes, it seems that most of them have been reuploaded. Only Matt can tell you how much is left to upload.
Yes. I just downloaded the Newton videos fresh, and half the elims will not transcode. They seem to play ok in other video players, but these are the first videos I am having trouble converting.
Sorry to keep you guys in the dark… I’m still uploading movies. I am on a 6Mbps connection w/ 0.4Mbps upload, but the upload speed to the circuitrunners server is about 60kbs even while multithreading. So overwriting the corrupt files is taking FOREVER. If all goes well they should be all fixed by the morning. I will give a status update when I get home from school tomorrow.
