Where do i find the licences for software like Solidworks and Mastercam? I have heard they were included in the KOP but the coach says he can’t find it. Is there another place where it is? We didn’t look super hard for it so its possible we missed it.
I believe you have to wait until the virtual kit of parts is released, then they should be available.
https://www.firstinspires.org/robotics/frc/kit-of-parts has more information.
The information for applying for Solidworks licenses is in this document:www.solidworks.com/first
Once you fill out all of the info you will get an email with the keys in about a week. I have never gotten a Mastercam license so I’m not sure about that process.
Other license keys are listed in TIMS for the two main contacts for years the team was registered for competition. Some license donations are only available to teams directly and may have limited seats allotted.
They are quite prompt. Took me less than a business day or two to get a reply with license key.
Here is the link to the solidworks application.
The SW this year comes with SW CAM so no need for MasterCAM I would think.
SW CAM is very “different” from MasterCAM. It’s not an easy switch to make (and might not be worth it).
From what I’ve been told SW CAM is a version of or closely mimics CAMWorks. I need to investigate more myself.
SW CAM is very similar to CAMWorks but lacks some of the really fancy features. I think the best use case for FRC is to use SW CAM to rapidly generate code for standard 2.5d sheet parts with just some contours and adaptive’d (VoluMilled) pockets. Then use HSMWorks/Fusion CAM for fancier parts that need weird operations/multi axis.
