Ok, so I will be trying to recruit some people to our team to help out with CAD next year because we only have 2 right now. I would like them to learn at least a basic set of skills over the summer, but we can not meet at school and I will be working all summer. What would be a good video course for them to learn on? (needs to be free btw)
Simbotics Solidworks Series is pretty good.
973’s RAMP CAD Series is really good for learning FRC related Solidworks. I would reccomend it to anyone learning CAD for FRC.
The RAMP videos as well as the Simbotics series are very good resources. If you are looking to go further, try having them design a simple drivetrain. A couple of the RAMP videos have to do with designing a WCD. Follow along with those, and it will help to reinforce both FRC design skills as well as learn the software.
Every FRC team gets an account for SolidProfessor. I recommend taking advantage of that. We set up our account with our team e-mail address, so we share that account with anyone who wants to learn SolidWorks (or one of several other pieces of software). I am working on a curriculum of sorts to guide people through the videos with exercises. The 973 RAMP and Simbotics videos are great for learning little tips and tricks you can use to speed up your CAD process.

I’m an AeroEng major at the University of Florida. We were taught and certified in Solidworks through the course and our professor created his own tutorial video series.
