Some songs for First Parodies

Hello…

I’m a mentor for team 1610. I came up with some parody songs and rewrote the lyrics for them. I’m gonna post them here so that if someone wants to do one, but doesn’t have an idea they can use one of them. There are several songs from music from the past 60 years. I’ll list them here and post them with the lyrics as i can. In no particular order.

  1. “You got a Friend in Me” from Toy Story written by Randy Newman
    which i’m calling " I Like FRC"
  2. " The Battle of New Orleans" by Johnny Horton. This is a really old one.
"I’m calling this one “The Ballad of 1610” because part of it is true.
  3. " Piano Man" by Billy Joel which i’m calling it " Coding Man"
4 " Beat It" from Michael Jackson which i’m calling " Cad It"
5." Cleveland Rocks" originally written by Ian Hunter…I’m calling this one
    Robotics Rocks"
  4. " Favorite Things" from The Sound of Music. written by Rogers and Hammerstein which i call " Favorite First Things "
  5. " When I’m 64 " from the Beetles which i’m calling " We’re Firsters to the Core"

and lastly…
8. “Lifes Been Good to Me So Far” by Joe Walsh which i call " Firsts Been Good to Me So Far"

I might do one more but i’m not sure yet.

I like FRC
I like FRC
When we work late cause the robots dead
And your miles and miles from your warm bed
You just remember what Woody Flowers said
Yup…
You’ll like FRC
You’ll like FRC

My team likes FRC
My team likes FRC
Our robots got troubles
And its bag day soon
The code don’t work
And its smoking too
But we stick together and see it through
Cause we like FRC
Cause we like FRC

Some other robots might be a little smarter than ours
Faster or stronger too, maybe
But they never built none of them
The way we built ours at our school

Its you and me Bot

And as the years go by
That old robot will never die
You’re gonna see what it taught to me
Cause i was part of FRC
Cause i was part of FRC
Yeah i was in FRC

Its a very old song written by Johnny Horton called " The Battle of New Orleans" (look up the song and play it and you older folks will remember it. I’m calling it " The Ballad of 1610" because parts of my lyrics are actually partly true.
“The Ballad of 1610”

In 2014 we took a long long trip
Out to St. Louis on the mighty Mississip
We took a little robot and we took our little team
We’re in First Robotics that was started by a man named Dean

We unpacked our robot and it began a running
We didn’t have much time as there was a while ago
We played some matches as the clock kept a running
On the Mississippi where the robots all go

We looked down the field and see the other alliance go
And all three then began a firing in a row
They ran up the score so high you could hear the goals ring
We stood by our drivers station and didn’t say a thing

Our old coach said we could take em by surprise
If we didn’t fire our robots til we looked them in the eyes
We held our fire til we saw their faces well
Then we shot at our goals and really gave them…he…well…

Yeah we wore out their wheels and broke a few frames
We drove thru goals where a robot shouldn’t go
They ran so fast that human players couldn’t catch em
On the Mississippi is where First robots all go

We fired our robot til the C-Rio melted down
so we grabbed another and played another round
We filled our robots with our alliance balls now we’re not behind
And we ran our controls til the robots lost their minds

Yeah we wore out their wheels and broke a few frames
We drove thru goals where a robot shouldn’t go
They ran so fast that human players couldn’t catch em
On the Mississippi is where First robots go

You New York folks might like this one…is from Billy Joel’s “Piano Man”
which i’m calling “Coding Man”

Its nine o’clock on a Saturday
As our robotics team shuffles in
There all here sitting next to me
Waiting for kickoff to begin
Frank says we have a new game again
Then tells us all how it goes
So each day we meet cause First is so neat
The Science and Math keep us on our toes

Oh la la la de de da

la la de de da da dum

Write us some code your our coding man
Write some code tonight
Well we’re all in the mood for a winning year
So you better get it just right

Now John is a mentor on our team
Who shows me how to code for free
He’s quick with a joke
When the robot goes up in smoke
But there’s someplace that He’d rather be
He says dude i believe this coffee is killing me
As the smile runs away from his face
We’ll i’m sure i could be a great IT guy
If i could just get out of this place

Oh la la la de de da

la la de de da da dum

Now Paul is our senior strategist
Who never has had a real life
And he’s talking to Tommy
Who’s building some Omni’s
And probably will be for life

And the head scout starts practicing politics
As the other programmers start to compile
Yeah we’ve got Java and Labview and C++
Man this code is gonna take me a while

Write us some code your our coding man
Write us some code tonight
Well we’re all in the mood for a winning year
So you better get it just right

We’ve got a pretty good bot for our regional
And the drive team gives me a smile
Cause they know its time for them to drive
We all forget about school for a while

And the pits sounds like a carnival
On the PA a team asks for some gears
As i sit in the stands and think and plan
I think i’ll do this again next year

Oh la la la de de da

la la de de da da dum

Write us some code your our coding man
Write us some tonight
Well we’re all in the mood for a winning year
So you better get it just right

Lastly tonight i have a song that Weird Al Yankovic has made a parody of (Eat It). Michael Jackson’s “Beat It”. My version is called “Cad It”

We have a program called First Robotics round here
We play a new game, its different every year
We better get ready cause kickoffs almost here
We’ll Cad it,We’ll Cad it

You better build fast, and program while you can
We won’t get no sleep, I’m learning engineering man
We need to build right, better do what you can

Just Cad it, Cad it, Cad it, Cad it

Before our batteries are over heated
Shown them First Robotics is your fight
It really matters so get the Cad right

Just Cad it, Cad it
Just Cad it, Cad it
Just Cad it, Cad it
Just Cad it, Cad it

We’ve only got six weeks, better build while you can
If that idea doesn’t work, we got another plan
Coffee keeps you alive, and we’re doing all we can

So Cad it, Just Cad it

You have to stay late, cause our schedule is far behind
You learn a lot cause First is the sport of the mind
You practice and sweat, then they tell you your outta time
You keep Cadding, but you need sleep bad

Cad it, Cad it, Cad it, Cad it

(next part repeats four times)
No one wants to be defeated
Showing how First Robotics is your fight
It really matters so get the Cad right

Just Cad it, Cad it, Cad it, Cad it, Cad it

If your familiar with the Drew Cary show you’ll know this one.
" Cleveland Rocks " was written by Ian Hunter. Its been covered by the
“Presidents of America” band and Ian has played it with Ringo Starr
with his “All Star” band. Lots of high school and college marching
bands play this one.

I’m calling it " Robotics Rocks "

All this technology, comes from science and math
Some say its nerdy but i think its cool, First put me on the path
All the teams shout out and scream

Robotics rocks, First Robotics rocks

Will I Am and Woody and Dean go

Robotics rocks, robotics rocks
Robotics rocks, robotics rocks
Robotics rocks, robotics rocks
Robotics rocks, First Robotics rocks

Momma wants me to do good in school, and go to college too
So i joined our local team, and learned something new
All the little teams, have their hopes and dreams

Robotics rocks, First robotics rocks

Our First team wants to be like 1114

Robotics rocks, robotics rocks
Robotics rocks, robotics rocks
Robotics rocks, robotics rocks
Robotics rocks, First Robotics rocks

Now i got some skills i’ll share with you
Its Coopertition and that’s what good teams do
Woody likes it and i do too

Now Robotics rocks, First Robotics rocks

Robotics rocks, robotics rocks
Robotics rocks, robotics rocks
Robotics rocks, robotics rocks
Robotics rocks, First Robotics rocks

Robotics rocks, robotics rocks
Robotics rocks, robotics rocks
Robotics rocks, robotics rocks
Robotics rocks, First Robotics rocks

Robotics rocks, robotics rocks
Robotics rocks…

This one is another older song. " Favorite Things " from “The Sound of Music” written by Rogers and Hammerstein. I’m calling my version
simply “Favorite First Things”

Numbers on our bumpers and totes with our kit things
Bright LED lights and code that’s well written
Nasa and grants that come with no strings
These are a few of my favorite First things

Teams in pink T shirts and robotics classes
My drivers buttons and good safety glasses
Welding on metal and motors and springs
These are a few of my favorite First things

If the bot dies or the match ends
When i’m feeling sad
I simply remember my Favorite First things
And i don’t feel so bad

Blue colored banners and robot design doodles
Game bells and team yells and lots of pool noodles
Frisbees that fly and robotic team bling
These are a few of my favorite First things

Labview and Java and parabolic curve musings
Laptops and drill bits, but game rules are confusing
What build season means and what it brings
These are a few of my favorite First things

When its over and we pack up
And i’m feeling sad
I simply remember we now have off season
And then i don’t feel so bad

This is a FRC version of the Beetles " When I’m 64 " I’m calling this one " We’re Firster’s to the Core"

When i got older, and went to high school
Many years ago
Our school has a First Robotics team
Mentors, teachers, and my partners in crime

Sometimes we work til quarter til three
Hope the school doesn’t lock the door

I think its real cool, robotics nerds rule
We’re Firster’s to the core

You’d like robotics too
And if your on our team
You might drive it too

I’m really handy building a frame
We’ve got lots of tools
Our design is not the first we tried
We barely got the parts all inside

Doing the wiring,programming speeds
Who could ask for more?

I think its real cool, robotics nerds rule
We’re Firster’s to the core

Every competition we go out of town, sometimes to other schools
I hope its not too far
Hope we win again
And sometimes we get to see
Woody, Frank and Dean

Here come the finals. and the alliance picks
Hope we make that too
Indicate precisely what you plan to do
Finals matches are insanely cool

We got a blue banner, we won again
Who could ask for more?

I think its real cool, robotics nerds rule
We’re Firster’s to the core

This one is a take
off on Joe Walsh’s “Life’s Been Good To Me So Far " This one is for the mentors out there…I’m calling this one " First’s Been Good To Me So Far”

I became a mentor
On a FRC team
To win a regional
Was our teams dream

We stay at hotels
Sometimes stare at the walls
Our team raised money
To pay for it all

Robotics is crazy but i have a good time (oh Yeah, Oh Yeah)
I’ve been looking for coffee, but really need wine
First’s been good to me so far

We built a robot
Thats does One Eighty Five
The Refs said no way
Now it don’t drive

We ride on busses
I ride in the back
Sometimes its a long ride
Can’t sleep, thats a fact

We’re building robots
The kids they can’t wait
They like the mentors
Tell them the’re great

So we won some blue banners
Gold medals on the wall
I hope that one day
Dean Kamen will call

Lucky i’m sane after all i’ve been thru
(and the team sings) Oh Yeah (He’s Cool)
I can’t complain but sometimes i still do
First’s been good to me so far

I go to meetings
Sometimes until Four
I’ve been so tired
I fall on the floor

Its tough to handle
A robotics team
Each year students are different
But i haven’t changed

They say i’m crazy but it would take too much time
Why i keep doing this guess i’ll never know why
First’s been good to me so far…oh Yeah, Yeah Yeah
