I’m pretty sure it varies from regional to regional. I think that they were playing “My Immortal” by Evanescense at GLR for the Rookie All Star (or some similar slow song), but normally they play “All Star”. I don’t think there’s a set playlist…
I only recognized ‘Starry Eyed Surprise’ by Paul Oakenfold. That’s probably the only song that didn’t make me cringe a little
The same songs played at both of the regionals that my team attended, and I’m pretty sure that there was a different DJ for both. I’m guessing that FIRST already organized a playlist. Most of the songs for the matches were cool, although they played ‘Sandstorm’ at least 30 times :X
I couldn’t imagine any team running up to the arena to pick up an award while ‘My Immortal’ is playing in the background ;X
I do not really remember exactly which songs were played for certain awards. But I did notice that the same songs were played for the same awards between the Los Angeles Regional and the San Diego Regional.
The Chairmans Award song is We’re At The Top of the World by The Juliana Theory.
Mr. Roboto by Styx is used often; not sure which award it’s used for though.
I remember hearing Breaking Free from High School Musical… I know it was used for the Finalists in Boston, I don’t remember what it was used for at Boilermaker, but it was definitely there. I know that there was a song from High School Musical at Granite State also, but I don’t know what song it was or what award it was for.
Sorry, I only notice random Disney kids music
One thing I noticed is that they weren’t playing “My Hero” for the WFA winners this year and any of the 3 regionals I’ve attended. Does anyone know why? I wish they’d bring it back.
The 3 regionals I attended (NJ, UTC, Boston), were all run by Sargent Productions (Also did kickoff), and they were the one’s doing music during the awards, not a DJ, so they played the same songs at every one of them.
Ironically, the song from High School Musical, “Breaking Free,” was played during the regional finalists. Its lyrics include, “There’s not a star in heaven / That we can’t reach,” yet the finalists didn’t quite reach the Regional Champion Star. Of course, this is similar to how they play “We are the Champions,” following the finals which includes, “No time for losers / Because we are the champions…”
The Awards music changed this year, and I have been to 3 regionals so far, and I believe the same songs have been used for the awards at all 3.
At both LA and San Diego, they played Avril Lavigne - Keep Holding On. I don’t recal what awards it was for. I don’t think she’s a good singer, but the lyrics are very applicable to FIRST and this game.
That song was for Rookie Inspiration if I’m remembering this correctly (which doesn’t happen as frequently as I’d like!)
It is nice that the music changes, I recall the looped clip of Tina Turner’s “The Best” that they used to play during awards got old real quick.
Although someday, I would love to hear them play “Everyday Superhero” by Smash Mouth for the Woodie Flowers Award or Volunteer of the year award. Nudge Nudge
Who does that song where the lyrics just seem to repeat “I feel happy” over and over again. I can’t seem to find it online.
The songs have bbeen the same for the past 4 events I’ve been at – they’re picked to coincide with the award being given out.
One song not listed yet is **Brian Wilson - Let It Shine.
**
Breaking Free was also played at Great Lakes and Buckeye
are you taking about Feel Good by Gorillaz INC
If you check out SOAP you can watch the awards ceremony at great lakes and figure out the songs that way…
