Southwest Airlines nationwide ground stop (has been lifted!)

News is still breaking, but it appears an IT issue is grounding all of Southwest’s flights to a halt. Given the quantity of Southwest flights into Houston and teams traveling today/tomorrow, this could disrupt a lot of teams’ ability to get to the Championship.

We are on ground in Chicago waiting to leave for the past hour or so. Pilot just came on and told us we will be departing shortly :crossed_fingers:

Their last two tweets don’t sound too promising with “we do not have a time frame for when this will be resolved”…

They just had us get off of our plane and then immediately start reboarding. Having lots of fun at LAX with another VC, two RDs, and at least three teams. See you soon, maybe.

We are in Columbus. They finally started to board new passengers. Fingers crossed.

Seems like at least some flights are departing, per flightradar24.com:

Some flights seem to be taking off here at LAX. If we didn’t have to deplane and reboard, I think we’d be in the air. Hopeful that when the last 1/3 of the flight finishes reboarding we’ll be on our way.

Our flight out of Portland is departing on time, though we heard the same news above just 10 minutes before boarding.

I spent 6 years as a DevOps Automation Software Engineer for Southwest as a Contractor, Including like 2.5 yrs in Crew Scheduling which included the software primarily blamed for the winter storm outage, and yeah… Im just gonna say im not surprised.

I suppose that’s kind of like the airplane version of unplug it and plug it back in.

It felt like unplugging it when the Windows Update was at 95%, and then plugging it back in. Not the right to just kill the power, but it eventually works itself out. Usually.
