What does it mean when a Spark MAX switches to constant yellow LED status?
My team and I were testing our swerve, and on low inputs the spark switches from green/red blinking to constant yellow, as a result the gears start making horrible sounds. Any thoughts on why?
Thank you.

As @tkchan pointed out, the constant yellow means the SPARK MAX is configured for Brushed Coast Mode and it is receiving a signal that is commanding zero output (AKA neutral).
What motor are you driving?
Are you using PWM or CAN to control your SPARK MAXs?
Could you elaborate a bit more on the LED behavior and sounds you are hearing? Does it happen only while the LED is constant yellow, or does it happen as it transitions between Red, Green, and Yellow?
If the latter, this could indicate the code is rapidly switching direction, which could result in some pretty violent sounding noise in your gear train.
