Spark Max dead on arrival

Hello all, don’t have much time to write up details, will do more later.

I’m at NE North Shore and we have encountered two brand new Spark MAXes that were dead on arrival on our robot. No lights, no camera, no action.

No obvious burns inside, and no known reverse polarity events. They were never used in a match or in practice.

After talking with one of the CSAs at the event, they mentioned that another team at the event also had this issue today.

Anyone else have this issue? (will contact Rev support on Monday)

Just had another one do this. Started a firmware update over CAN, if failed and the Spark started alternating orange/green, which I didn’t see in the troubleshooting guide.

After waiting a little bit, we removed power and tried a direct connection with robot power on and with power off, but the lights would not come back on and the Spark doesn’t show up in the Rev client.

Are you sure the blink isn’t orange cyan for bad gate Array? We’ve had one of those this year, one that insists no 12 volt power, 1 that fried the can chips, and one that has no lights.

We had similar experiences during the build season but at least it gave us lights but couldn’t run any motor. We couldn’t update any configurations (invert, brake/coast mode, etc) and solved it by flashing firmware a million times…

Have you tried Sparkmax recovery mode?

My team received several Spark MAXes that wouldn’t work until placed in recovery mode (I would give it a try).

Also, I would recommend trying to go straight to USB as well. Maybe trying the Spark max client too instead of the universal Rev Client

We were able to recover the 3rd dead spark with recivery mode. Haven’t tried the other two, as we had replaced them on the robot before it happened. I assume it will be the same, as they had been firmware updated at some point, but never tested/used and.
