SplineXS Motor Configurator

TLDR: If you are standardizing on SplineXS, this may save you time and effort by allowing you to swap between pinions and motors without breaking your assembly.

In prep for the 2025 season, I made a motor configurator that supports motors with the SplineXS shaft standard.

This motor configurator allows users to switch between Motors, Pinions and Mounting Adapters without blowing up their assembly. To use it, simply mate the Motor Configurator assembly into your assembly using the “Motor Mount” Mate Connector.

This configurator has the following inputs:

The Motor Field allows the user to choose between the following motors:

  1. Kraken X60
  2. Kraken X44
  3. Minion
  4. Neo Vortex with 15t Spline Shaft

The Mounting Spacer Adapter field allows the user to pick between some custom/OTS spacers. The goal was to allow any motor to interface with a 2" bolt circle so they could be swapped out with each other if desired. Changing the Mounting Spacer will cause the “Motor Mount” mate connector to automatically shift so the assembly still mates to your use case correctly

The Pinions Field allows the to specify their pinion. I currently have WCP and TTB pinions in there, but am happy to add more if others would find it useful. I excluded the 3D print Adapter (WCP-1021) because I figured that would be associated with a custom component anyway. If you want to use a custom component here, just set the Pinion to ‘None’, uncheck the Outer Pinion Spacer and mate your custom component to the ‘Pinion Location’ Mate Connector.

The Pinion Offset from Mount field allows the user to specify the distance between the start of the pinion and the mounting face of the motor assembly. In cases where a spacer is used, the pinion will move away from the motor face to maintain the desired clearance.

The spacer checkboxes allow the user to specify if spacers are included in the assembly. These are simple 3D printed spacers

The Spacer OD allows the user to specify the Outer Diameter of the Spacers. They support spacers between 3/8" and 1.25" ODs. Default is set to 0.5" to allow users to support the motor shaft with a standard bearing (YMMV based on printer quality and specs, for best performance, you may want to turn that component using instead of printing it).
