Staging Tipped Cones

Section 6.1.1 states:
each ALLIANCE may stage 4 GAME PIECES of their choice on the STAGING MARKS as shown in Figure 6-1

Does this allow an alliance to stage their cones in any orientation as long as they are on the marks or must they be upright as seen in the picture? Could an alliance choose to stage cones on their side if it’s better for them? This definitely needs to be asked on the Q&A but I want to see people’s interpretations of this.

I would think yes, you can tip them over. If the mark was a box just a little bigger than the base, I could see them saying that it’s not “on” the mark if its sticking off the sides, but since it is a tape X, it will always be sticking off the sides. I think if they intend them to always be upright, they would need an update to clarify.

Definitely worth inquiring further, but I’d wager “as shown” In 6.1.1. B, not only means upright, but also centered on the staging mark and square to the playing field as well.

Hmmm, now that I read NHikel319’s answer, I think I may be wrong

Curious to see what QA says!

Definitely needs to be asked in the Q&A. I’m also interested in whether teams place them or inform the field crew what they want and we place them. WIthout deep thought, I don’t remember any recent game where teams do anything to the field other than stage robots and preload, aside from Steamworks ropes.

Cargo ships in 2019, either null hatch panel or cargo

Defenses in 2016 (informing field staff).

I’m fairly certain the answer will be we can only choose the game pieces as is outlined in the manual for the game but orientation of the game piece will be fixed and upright. Only the QA can give the final answer.
