STEAMPOWERED UPDATE

Finally announcing the update of Steampowered the video game! After weeks of work on this update, (and a month left to go), we are getting ready to unveil the same lovable, glitchy game with more to do and more ways to play! Stay tuned for weekly updates on Chief Delphi and FRC Reddit!

Any chance of this project being open source in the near future?

Hello Chief Delphi, sorry for the delay in the second installment in our update but here it goes:

New Game Modes: Play in Speed Run mode to try and get your new personal best! The end game screen will have easily verifiable scores, listing power ups used and what robot used (hmmm…). Compete for glory with more than one friend in Tournament Mode! This single elimination bracket will have your team more hype than Einsteins!

New Music: No longer do you have to listen to the cheers and screams of the crowd, but instead hype (copyright free) music!

P.S.: Unfortunately, we will not be making this project open sourced. You would faint if you saw our code just from the sheer messiness and lack of comments. Future projects from our team might though!

Looking forward to the update to an already great game!

Here’s this weeks update news:

Better game play! Overpowered strategies like bouncing the opponent robot in the air and sitting on the opponent’s peg were nerfed by adding penalties.

Better graphics! The airship now looks amazing (due to an artistic person doing the art) and the robots… eh hem… I mean title screen looks much better as well.

Stay tuned for more updates! Next week is the big one, announcing the new r-------------------------spoiler alert, bet you can’t guess this one…

I am so much more hyped for this than I have any right to be.

**The big update announcement you all have been waiting for!

Disclaimer: **robots were chosen at the development team’s choice, and because we didn’t have time to create thousands of robots, we came up with a roster of nine. Also, we tried to balance each robot AND give it similar attributes that it had in real life. Like 973’s bot wasn’t inferno in real life and 1986 wasn’t that slow, we just needed to balance the robots.

**NEW ROBOTS!

The Cheesy Poofs:** With a large hopper and a fast firing speed, they are a force to be reckoned with (except with their lack of accuracy).
The Robonauts: Although they have a small hopper and slight inaccuracy, autoaim truly does help!
Team Titanium: Well, if you make the robot shoot 100% accuracy, what is there not to love (hint: their speed).
Team Crush: The fastest flippin robot on the field can do four rotors in forty seconds!
Stryke Force: The most innovative robot in the game… puts gears on backwards… woaaaaaah.
The Greybots: Are they the best robot in the game or the worst? That’s for you to decide with this inferno bot!
The Pascack Pi-oneers: They are pretty darn fast at cycling gears… as for shooting, well, let’s say they have a shooter.
The Metal Mustangs: Make the other robot sing “Can’t touch this” because every time they touch your robot, they get penalty points!
Dozer: The little toaster that could takes taunt winning to the next level. With the worst speed and no shooting, you’ll surely be left defenseless with this meme machine!

Introducing Hats! Wear a hat, don’t wear a hat, we don’t care! But just in case you want your robot to wear one, we gave you in game currency to buy one with! Also, if you have ideas for hats you’d like to be in the game, comment down below some ideas, and who knows, it might just end up on a robot!

I am so hyped for this game but I have to volunteer at a lego league qualifier that day so I won’t be able to play till I get home. ARGH!

I’ll be working on a general top-down frame that will be used to make the video game for the 2018 Power Up game here https://github.com/CAPS-Robotics/unofficial-frc-game-frame completely open-source through ought the entire process. Currently, I’m working on a big commit that’ll add (minor spoiler alert) LAN capabilities. Stay tuned and stay hyped, because it’s going to be awesome. Steampowered took us 4 weeks, think what we can do in 4 months.

Will the game be updated with more robots or is this steam-powered in it’s final form. The robots I think that could be added would be: 125- 118 but with a faster RoF but no gear capabilities, 195- 118 with 254’s hopper but a slower RoF, 1114- 195 but with no floor pickup for anything but with a very fast speed. I think 5687 would be a cool addition but I do not know what their special thing would be.

By chance is anyone having problems with the keyboard in a match? How would I fix this?

Try turning off Key Repeat (in Keyboard under System Preferences). And make sure the keyboard layout is QWERTY (default).
