SteamWorks Game Rules Test

I have finally finished making a test for this years Game.

It contains:

  • A general test about the game. 2.5 pages.
  • A section for Human Players and Pilots. 2.3 pages
  • A Drive Team Test. 4.5 pages
  • A Robot Design Test. 3.7 pages

The test is a Google Docs.
The questions are not numbered.
You are free to make a copy and adjust it to your own desires.
I have an Answer Key, but honestly, you should make your own. RTDM!

PM me with your email address if you would like access to it.
I prefer to only share it with mentors for now.

Thanks so much for creating a test! When nearing the end of build season, it becomes difficult to focus on finishing everything on our list… Having something like this is a great help!

Thanks!

Any reason you’re keeping it mentors only?

Yes, as I would like the test to be “new” to each student completing it, although, if they saw the test and reviewed the manual, then, mission accomplished.

Kind of a teacher-student-test thing.

The Answer Key is for mentors only though.
I do some “serious vetting”. :ahh:

We tend to not even provide an answer key to mentors at all (though never students).

Thanks for making this test. I’m working my way through it now. It is very comprehensive. It looks like it will be a good test for those wanting to be on the drive team. It seems to focus on things the drive team will need to know at an event.

I am the only mentor for a team with mostly new team members so this will be a great tool to get them to study the rules more thoroughly.

Sharing the test through a link has proved to be problematic for some.

I am considering just posting it as a .pdf, but that won’t allow people to revise it to their needs.

If you would like a copy, please send me your email address as that method of sharing appears to be more reliable.

I will post an answer key as a .pdf…eventually. It’s better to make your own.

You can make a private Google Doc and share only to people who request it. People can duplicate the document into their own Google Doc or download as a .docx file.

Really comprehensive. Well done! Thanks for sharing.

You can post encrypted word, zip, or PDF files. Then you can share the passcode with mentors via e-mail.

Thank You for the test, haven’t made it all the way through yet but very comprehensive.

That is what I have started doing, as the link seems to have an expiration date, or keeps changing as I leave it open.

So PLEASE people, if you want a copy, send me YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS.

This would be so much easier if I just posted it, I know. But, I am a teacher, and some semblance of test “security” is a habit.

If you have asked for a copy, please check your email as my time is tight with the impending deadline. I have stopped individually responding to each email.

And my kids thought I was ruthless for a 3.5 page test  (which was a thinned down version from 5 pages). Though, mine was only on gameplay rules and penalties!

Very comprehensive. Thanks for sharing!

One mistake I found. The header of the robot design section says “Stronghold Robot Design Test”

Thank you.

Surprised that no-one else noticed that.
Me: Guilty of Cut & Paste.

Nonetheless, I did review and revise the questions to be more specific to this years challenge.

Or did I?..

If there are any newer teams out there that don’t think they will have enough interested students to take such an intense test, a new team near us took the driver’s test we created and turned it into a worksheet. They are a brand new team with spotty attendance, and I think their mentor made a great decision for how to get them to read the manual before competition.

Robot design test:
6th question, I don’t see that info in the manual, am I missing something?

Yeah that’s a rule from last year

We used this test with many members of our team over the last few days. It certainly is a comprehensive/difficult test. We warned members of the level of difficulty so they didn’t “freak out” too bad. At our next meeting we will be using the test questions in a review format as a teaching tool. There are several questions that have sparked some really interesting strategic questions as well.

Thank you so much for the huge effort pulling this together. You have done a great service to the FRC community and for our team.

Regards

It IS a rule from last year, but with some of the confusion about how far your Robot can extend at the start of the match and after the match begins…

Our LRI’s have been emphasizing this rule. So I kept it in assuming ~2" bumpers.

Your results may vary, but it would be a shame to have this be an issue at your initial competition. (Cue Grinding Wheels sound)
