When registering my students there is an option to register for multiple teams. Why is this an option?
I have friends who compete in both FTC and FRC competitions, so they have to register for both of those. Why you can compete in multiple teams for the same competition, that I’m not sure of. As far as I know, there’s nothing that prohibits participating in multiple teams, but I’m not sure why someone would want to.
The best a mentor can do is send an invitation. It really isn’t necessary and complicates the process. The parent needs to register and accept the permission and waiver form for under 18s. They are the ones with the option to register for multiple teams.
I have a freshman that her home school has an FRC team. They don’t meet or compete all summer like our team has. She has been participating in all of our summer activities and now has a feeling of loyalty? Fortunately our teams don’t compete at the same Regional. I don’t want to snipe from other teams so if she registers for both then when her home team begins to meet she won’t feel obligated to travel the 30 minutes every day to us.
Because as was mentioned some participate in FTC as well as FRC and for FTC it is pretty common to have more than one team at a given school. Also there are people that work with more than one team as well as there are times when there is a team that doesn’t have two people ready to pass the YPP in time to register for an event. At one time I was listed as the alternate contact for 2 teams in addition to to the one that I actually worked with on a regular basis. I know I’m not the only that was in that situation.
Well a lot of our students can’t sign up at all because our host school isn’t in the list so I guess I don’t have to worry about them signing up for two teams if they can’t sign up for ours to begin with.*
EDIT: *Someone will say “just use the school not in list option” and I’m going to go ahead and tell you we’ve tried and reported the “an error occurred while saving” message to the fine folks in FIRST IT.
