What are the strangest shapes you have seen/created for a chassis ?
1114 in 2015 turned some heads (2015 was weird in general)
There have been a couple circular robots throughout the years
There have been plenty of octagon bots as teams clip corners or have bumper lead-in angles to push through traffic at the peak of CIM usage and custom tank drive development.
There have been some tiny robots over the years, some competitive play, some off season.
Nonagon robots that make Einstein have a 100% conversation rate
2481 had their crazy hanger climbing setup of a frame in 2022
2383 and 4907 had some strange ones this year, not sure what ultimately happened to 1942 this year (CINDERELLA 1942 FRC Robot Reveal, 2023 Season: The Road Runner)
I am sure there have been a ton of interesting frames from lesser known teams over the years.
4613’s billet chassis this year
in an event in lansing michigan I saw a middle school tem with a chassis shape like a house.
At Maker Faire Detroit a team had an (almost) comp legal robot in a power-up milk crate.
4613 this year had the only chassis I’m aware of from my time in FRC that was milled from a single block of aluminum.
2008 world champion 148 nonagon chassis
330 2009
I cannot remember this team’s number for the life of me, but here’s a chassis that tried to compete at 2019 Ket1. They were all super stoked to finally get this robot on the field, but unfortunately it was deemed illegal from having no way of mounting bumpers to it. The FTAs were nice enough to give them a practice match on their own, if I remember correctly.
loved this drive. tribot diffy swerve was a dream of mine but the team never budged. Sad that they had to change to SDS for champs due to manufacturing tolerance issues.
These are AI generated, right? That can’t be real…
I agree that 1114 in 2015 was the oddest self-contained chassis for that year.
Was this for jokes or was that their actual comp bot? Where kop…
4907 had a strange shaped in 2020, which they referred to as a “D” shaped frame.
This was their actual comp bot. I think they either had to switch to a KOP, or they locked the front rocker so it looked like an upside-down “U” shape from the side. It was very well made and pretty robust! Just unfortunate they didn’t have a bumper solution to go with it
Anyone have pictures of this??
