I was comparing different robot archetypes that are simple and effective. Below are my favorite two. Who do you think will rank higher in quals? Who is likely to perform better in playoffs? I know these are subjective questions, but I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Also, share some other ideas, this is definitely not an all encompassing list!
The Deep Cage Trougher
Auto Leave - 3p
1 L1 Auto Coral Scored - 3p
8-12 L1 TELEOP Coral Scored - 16-24p
15s Deep Cage Climb - 12p
I was wondering the same thing, in terms of archetypes. In our initial brainstorming, our team also came up with on that focused algae but we’re still unsure of how Algae will play into the grand scheme of the game.
The Algae Allstar Deep Cager
Auto Leave
1 L1 Coral Auto Scored
1-2 Algae scored in Net in Auto
2+ Algae scored in Processor in Auto
Cycles Algae in Processor
L1-2 Coral Scoring capability?
Cycling algae into the processor isn’t worth it. You get two points for it. (6 points initially, but then -4 when the human player shoots it in the net.) If the opponent human player is smart, you are limited to 5 cycles because the processor fills up if it isn’t cleared right away. The human player should wait to clear it until at the end of the game. How much algae in the processor is worth depends on the accuracy of human players:
100% HP accuracy: 2pts for algae in processor
80% HP accuracy: 2.8pts
60% HP accuracy: 3.6pts
40% HP accuracy: 4.4pts
20% HP accuracy: 5.2pts
0% HP accuracy: 6pts
Assuming decent HP accuracy, It is worth more points to shoot algae into the net directly (4p). But even then you are limited by there only being 9 algae that you can count on getting.
With that in mind:
The Algae Allstar Deep Cager
Auto Leave - 3p
1 L1 Coral Auto Scored - 7p
2+ Algae scored in Processor in Auto - 4p
3 TELEOP cycles Algae in Processor - 6p
3-7 L2 TELEOP Coral Scored - 9-21p
15s Deep Cage Climb - 12p
9-14 cycles - 47p AVG and most of your cycle points come from coral.
I was working thru the best case expected strategy overall for the match and what we could realistically control. We can’t control the auto ranking point, we can’t really control the coral ranking point, but we can mostly control the end game hang.
Also, given how the points break down a strong focus on being able to process coral on L4 and L3 are priority. This is more pointed during auto as L3 and L4 get you two extra points during auto vs only 1 extra point on L2 and L1.
Subject to change but what we have so far is:
auto leave - 3p
auto preload place L4 - 7p
auto human station pickup and place L4 - 7p
teleop 4) L4, 4)L3 2)L2 - 40p
deep hang - 12p
69p
this could be higher if you just focus on the upper levels but if you want the coral ranking point you will have to fill out the rest.
april tags will be very important for cycle times.
Since you asked about rank predictions based on what I picture in my head these archetypes might look like:
The simple coral deep cage bot will probably rank highest.
Their first pick would likely be the algae deep cage bot.
And their second pick would be another coral bot (especially if there is one available that can score on levels the captain cannot) or defense depending on what is available at the event. Deep cage is a nice to have in this 2nd pick but won’t drive selection in the same way I think it will for ranking high or being a first pick.
Importantly, the simple coral deep cage bot is able to largely drive 2 RP every match (auto and barge).
Since you asked about playoff performance too:
Especially early in the season I could see “upsets” happening when an alliance led by a simple coral deep cage bot goes up against an alliance led by an all-level coral shallow cage bot. The all-level bot may not get as many RP, especially early in the season depending on match schedule, but they score more points in a match individually.
