Student Recruitment Videos

I know there was a thread recently about good videos that promote FIRST, and while I think a lot of good videos were shared there, I think most were good for getting adults/companies/etc. interested in FIRST more then students.

I think many teams out there have probably seen their student count go down, potentially significantly, and could use some good ideas on things that can help get new students at their school/etc interested in joining the team. I know on previous teams, we actually made a video specifically for getting students excited and interested in what we do, which primarily focused on robots doing things, and seeing students doing things.

Here is a video 33 made in the summer of 2017 to recruit for the 2017-2018 school year. We had a few junior and senior students show this video and give a short 10 minute presentation during school to some of the freshman classes going on. This combined with demoing a robot at the club fair before the start of school for incoming freshman led to having one of the best classes of students I have ever worked with that have now just graduated. Hard to say how much impact the video itself had, but I think having some media tailored for the students your team is looking to impact is very valuable to have.

I wanted to see if anyone else out there had some really good quality examples of videos/etc. they have made specifically for recruiting students, rather then most of the videos out there which are more targeted towards the general population.

Citrus Circuits has a recruitment page on our website with videos about the team and each of our primary and secondary sub-teams. These videos were created with recruitment in mind.

Nice! 836 also made a recruitment video back in the summer of 2018. An update is on our list of things to do.

One of my go-to videos, however, is one that we made in the summer of 2019. Parodying the Top Gun intro, it’s usually a hit in our naval aviation community. It tends to turn a few heads.

Here’s the video our media team made last fall: Recruitment Video 2020 - YouTube. Had to make do with footage we happened to have from previous years + screen captures from our virtual summer workshops, but I think it still came out pretty good.
