Suction systems in Charged Up

My team’s thinking of trying to use a suction mechanism to pick up the cubes. Is that allowed?

Good technical question! Keep in mind that it will be tou and your teammates who will have to be at your robot’s inspection, not the members of chief Delphi.

What rule do you see to make you believe it’s not allowed?

I do believe that suction is allowed, as this video by Ri3D Redux shows: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ri3YPixlY_E
However, it does have some technical downsides, as demonstrated in said video.

Quiz time!

Is the motor displayed in that video legal?

I had the same question when I first saw that video, you can swap a similar motor. The one in the video looks to be a 550 size motor of some sort, you can use a banebots 550.

It seems to be legal but I don’t know if you would want to. There are several downsides that might not be worth it. From whats been shown so far in ri3d, the suction methods can’t pickup cubes that well (they need a backstop or it will not work). They also need to be almost spot on to pickup cones, which might take a lot of time for your driver to line up.
