Suggestions for Off-Season event Rule Changes - Sin City Showdown

This November (exact weekend TBD), Pair of Dice Robotics 7426 and Sin City Robotics 7424 will be co-hosting an off-season Deep Space FRC event in Las Vegas. We are still working out the final details for field rental from FIRST CA, but we estimate the final registration cost will be approximately $350 per robot. Teams can register multiple robots. It’s going to be fun and some great teams have already expressed interest!

Anyway, to get to my main question, what suggestions do you have for point/rule changes? Or do you think it should remain the same?

If you’re interested in attending the event:
Interest form link or DM me if you would like to be updated about the final details of the event.

I’m looking forward to the full match sandstorms.

We already had that at UNC Asheville, but there was a field fault after about a minute of sandstorm. I may be wrong, but I think we are the only team with a 3-hatch sandstorm. (Not a real match because of the fault, nor was it 15 seconds, but we’ll take what we can get)

Regarding rule changes, I would suggest making the HAB docking RP require 18 HAB points because it is very easy to get right now

Randomly give out yellow cards. Oh wait we already have G20.

As an actually serious answer messing around with the point values as you score higher in the rocket could be interesting.

Add a 5 second protected zone in between the rocket and the cargo ship. Make sure to restart the count if the defending robot is being pinned by the offensive robot. (Basically equivalent to the boiler protected zone from 2017)

Is there a video?

I think some silly matches of “random sandstorm during the match” would be fun. At kickoff we kept calling this Deep Space chaos mode; the curtains drop and Darude cuts in over whatever the match music was for 15 seconds.

This would be good to help balance rankings. All 3 robots on your alliance have to get back or you inspire some more desperate climb-by-yeet moments. Hardly anyone does two HAB 2s and a HAB 1 so it won’t really penalize them.

1 Yellow card per match, randomly assigned.

It’s too big a change to make, even at an off-season, but I’d like to see the “1 defender” rule go away, and put the feed stations across the field.

If a team completes a first, second, and third level, across both rockets, that is an rp and 10 points in playoffs.

Stagger the hatch launch Red Card so it’s a warning if the hatch stays in the field–red card if it leaves or if it’s a repeat offense.

Apply G20 only inside the Frame Perimeter.

Robots can start on hab level 3. Crossing HAB line in sandstorm when starting up there is worth 12 points

I don’t think so, might have been 2.5, idk. Either way it took a good minute to do it, so doesn’t really count because field fault for messed up sandstorm

Penalty for descoring game pieces in quals is only an RP if the number of pieces descored plus the greater number of game pieces in a single rocket is greater than or equal to 12. Maybe each descored counts as 2. Also maybe only 2-3 “game piece credit” for the rocket RP for touching the rocket after T=20

I thought these particular rules did less to penalize sloppy defence, and more to randomly reward whichever teams are facing the sloppy defender.

I was thinking this too. I like when the things worth ranking points in quals actually count for something in the playoffs

OMG, this would be amazing! I could imagine a lot of things going wrong here lol
