Hey everyone. I was just wondering which other teams were doing summer outreach and what they have been doing.
1002 was in the 4th of July Parade for the city of Marietta Georgia. We have also given presentations at a few libraries in the county. We helped run our magnet programs summer camp for middle schoolers and rising freshmen. We also talked to multiple boy scout camps and taught classes there. We also helped out with a robotics camp at one of the local colleges (Kennesaw State University).
With less than 15 days of summer left for us, We still have a few more things in store.
We have accumulated 922 Man hours so far. We are hoping for a 1002 Man hours for this summer and will hopefully get it if everyhting falls into place as planned.
How about the rest of you guys? What have you all been doing for outreach this summer?
We held a summer robotics camp for elementary and middle school students. The camp works out well because we have had a few campers actually become members. It is always fun and we enjoy doing it.
I’ve been trying to pull the rest of the team in to helping with soup kitchens and elementary students but the members don’t seem to be picking up on things. But I’m not giving up…
1293 is currently meeting to get things together for 2006. Some community service is in the works, as are plans to march in the Okra Strut parade in Irmo (yes, it’s a two-day celebration of all things okra) and the Labor Day parade in Chapin.
(With a little luck, we’ll have vision working for the parade. Woot.)
Team 470, Team 1502, Team 815, Team 862 and Team 1549 are presenting a Huge :yikes: 3 Day FIRST Robotics demo at the Ypsilanti Heritage Festival, Aug. 19 - 21st. We would be glad if other teams want to join us for any part of the weekend.
I posted the details previously here:
Check there and pm me if your team wants to come.
(I promise this is my last post about this event.)
We didn’t really run any outreach programs, but we did do a couple of things along those lines. The first was going to a boyscout day camp where we did a little demo for the kids, told them about FIRST, and answered questions (and there were a LOT of questions). Later in the summer we took the robot to the freshmen orientation for our school and gave another demo as well as let them know what our team is about to try and get people interested.
I honestly think summer outreach programs are great and I think it would be cool to run one next summer, but I would have to find help and decide what Ave’s would be best.
From the end of the school year we have done several demonstrations including Relay for Life, GEMS conference, Elementary school science fair, take your child to work day, club night at our school, and of course helping 470 out at the Ypsilanti Heritage Festival. We’ve also done a few bottle drives. We also have a few things in the works for after school starts.
team 245 has weekly tech days at our sponsers shop where we are outfitting the local sherrif’s police trafic robot.(sorry bout the spelling in workin on 1 hr of sleep in 3 days) we are workign on the delta force project search cd for info on that its a coprocesser for the first controler. also we have gone to laser tag as team building and the local elementary schools at the end of the year
Everyone needed vacation, so everyone took vacation.
We had plans but didn’t really follow up with them too well because we were just completely exhausted. Getting a team through a season through willpower alone can take its toll.
we are planning a summer camp program for all ages… i’m in charge of it… sigh yet to figure out everything* it its mostly to get the girls syked about robotics :ahh:
