Hi all,
I can’t seem to get SW2008 (what they give you this year) to install on my shiny new Vista 64 laptop.
Is it just me, or am I stuck helping kids out on their older laptops???
Any work arounds?
Thanks,
Mike

Hmmm…
When you say it won’t install, do you get an error message of any sort?
I haven’t seen what came with the kit yet. I’m curious if there’s a number to call for support?
Also, is it a DVD. I’m at home now, not at work so I don’t remember if there is a separate DVD for the 2008 64bit version. I just installed 2009 and remember that there were separate disks for 32 and 64bit versions.
Also, check the approved graphics cards here:

An unapproved video card shouldn’t keep it from installing though.
SolidWorks Student Edition only works with certain versions of Windows Vista.
Vista Home is not supported! You can pay Microsoft some more money to upgrade.
If your OS is:
Vista (32-bit) it needs to be Windows Vista Ultimate, Business and Enterprise editions only. SP0 or higher
Vista (64-bit) (12)(11)(13)
(11) Windows Vista Ultimate, Business and Enterprise editions only. SP0 or higher.
(12) Windows Vista 64-bit is supported for SolidWorks 2008 SP3.1 or higher.
(13) The Education Edition, Student Edition, and Student Design Kit for SolidWorks 2008-2009 and earlier are not supported.

Hi all,
Yes, I was trying to install it on my laptop which was Vista Home Premium 64 bit.
I’ve just finished downgrading my laptop to Vista HP 32 and so far it seems to work fine.
Thanks for the help
Mike

32 is ok
64 is not. You have to wait for the summer.
