Swearing on CD

Why was swearing not allowed on old CD, but is allowed on new CD? Was this a conscious choice, a limitation of discourse, or an oversight? Should swearing be allowed on here?

I think I lean toward it should not be allowed, but I will admit there are always some damn good moments for it that I feel like we can miss when it’s not allowed.

Swearing/cursing is a choice. Its use diminishes the message.
We should hold ourselves to a higher standard and live/post as an example to the students who are also on CD.

Swearing is still censored just less swear words are so I can finally say heck.

I’m pretty sure it’s still not allowed, but Discourse doesn’t have (Edit: I didn’t think Discourse had) a native swear filter to replace swears with the old @$# string. I haven’t really noticed anything that you can’t say on TV since the migration.

Swearing is not allowed, but the filters on Discourse aren’t as tight as they were on vBulletin. If you notice a word getting through that shouldn’t be, send a note to the moderators and we can update the filter.

I think we are all mature enough to say what the heck and hell. We are not 2 years old.

While I do swear IRL quite a bit I think it’s more an issue of how Chief Delphi is perceived and what kind of community you want to cultivate here rather than maturity.

Of course we can say that:

Norway got there first, but if FRC keeps growing in Michigan we might get a second team from

H-E-double-hockey-sticks.

Swearing isn’t part of a professional environment.

Despite the fact that it is very common in a number of professions such as the military and entertainment (not that CD needs any evidence of the latter)?

I think very light swearing in a reasonable context can probably go unpunished.

Excessive usage or strong words can be punished by mods as they see fit.

Shouldn’t be any problem.

Difference is, this is a platform made for kids, and the mentors of those kids.

Either NASA doesn’t count as a professional environment, or this is not true.

Wait are people seriously trying to argue that swearing is professional? That’s a new one.

Personally, i perceived it as “swearing isnt part of a gracious professional environment.”

Remember TSIMFD? Since then, at least.

Does Team 666 from ■■■■, CT count even though they’re unactive?
