T-shirt Cannon revolver seal

our team is trying to make a t-shirt cannon with a revolving barrel. does anyone know how to seal the barrel each time the barrel rotates?

No need, at least in our experience. There is some air loss but the plate that backs the barrels is a close enough fit that it’s not a big pressure drop.

Hi, I am a part of the team that is creating our second t-shirt cannon for team 2073. We are currently designing on solidworks and started to realize some major problems. We are trying to figure out how to control the scuba tanks and the part that is needed as a solenoid. We would like to know how to control the scuba tanks high pressure. Thanks :]

I recommend a sprinkler valve, our T-shirt Cannon uses one.

I would not recommend a sprinkler valve, just because I’ve read threads suggesting the same and concerns about how safe it is.

We based off our T-Shirt cannon off of 254’s Shockwave and like Squirrel mentioned

We did the same. We have a 3000 psi SCUBA tank connected to SCUBA valves that run to a 5000 psi pressure gauge and 150 psi regulator (this is the outlet for the pressure for the diver). We then adjust that regulator from 40-150 psi depending on the venue we are shooting in (small or HUGE). The air from the regulator fills a secondary SCUBA tank that accumulates the air for each shot at a much safer pressure than the main 3k psi SCUBA tank. The solenoid that lets out the accumulated air for each shot is a 1" NPT MAC solenoid, similar to the one on Shockwave.

We have a gap of about half an inch (yes I know it’s quite a bit) between the exhaust valve and the barrel but the maximum range is still about 200 feet.

Our revolver has been upgraded with a scuba tank as well. We have the scuba regulator fixed at 120 psi and have a second regulator (standard FRC regulator) that adjusts pressure into the accumulator tank at no more than 60 psi and we have a third regulator that adjusts pressure into a small accumulator tank that operates the modified 3/4 in gate valve we use to fire the contraption.
Our revolver seals are spring loaded pvc on both sides of the revolver cylinder and only open up about 1/8 inch when firing. We get about, never measured it but probably about 100 ft at max elevation. We do have 10 shots though and the accumulator tank refills in less time than it takes to rotate another shot into place.
