Tapatalk?

Recently I have been doing a lot of browsing on my android phone. I was curious if there was any interest in the Chief Delphi community or among the administrators to add tapatalk support.

Tapatalk is an Android and iOS app (Blackberry beta and Windows Phone 7 and WebOS support by 3rd parties that use the Tapatalk plugin/API) as well as an installable plugin for your forum which allows users to access the forum in a user and mobile friendly application that is a lot smoother than trying to access via a standard mobile web browser.

I have used tapatalk for several android development forums and I have found it to be a much smoother experience than a web browser offers. With the increasing proliferation of mobile devices I think it is something worth considering.

More about it can be found here.

Just my 2 cents

Yes, I would love it. Ill ask one of our mentors who’s in the app industry.

Having posted this reply via my phones web browser, tapatalk on the other forms I frequent is infinitely easier.

Yes, this would be a fantastic addition

This looks like it would benefit many people during the competitions as well as build season. The alliance selection results will be so much easier.

Does anyone know if this is the right medium to propose such an idea? Or is there a better place to go?

During build season it would be helpful (speaking from using it on other forums) it’s search works pretty well too.

Only con is users having to buy the app but it ends up being a “price you pay” type of thing.

We at CD are always open to features that meet the needs of the community.

What are the opinions of other users? Is this an area to be investigated?

Post your thoughts here.

Considering that less then 0.5% of active users support chiefdelphi with $5, I wonder how many people would pay a third party (tapatalk) $2.99 for the app.

That is true, however tapatalk does have uses at forums other than chief delphi, additionally 5 dollars via paypal is using a liquid asset (cash) whereas buying a 2.99 app (at least in the case of the Apple App Store) is often paid for through a non liquid asset (iTunes Gift Cards) where people may have the value sitting in their account for months with no other use.

Additionally one is charity in a way while the other is a purchase for personal use.

I am curious what the cons of implementing tapatalk would be? I don’t think it really has any effect on the forum’s stability or speed, and it lets people willing to spend the money have a nicer user interface.

Could we all pitch in and get this?

That would work too, two things to consider is it 200 per app or 200 for android & iphone. Tapatalk also covers blackberry, webOS and windows phone 7

200 for both

Whatever works for you guys, I am going to have a different impression than the rest of the community having bought tapatalk already but this thread was mostly just to request some sort of mobile interface.

I use my Droid X to check these forums nearly every day during my lunch break at work. I have zero issues seeing or using all the forum’s features. I see no reason to make any changes, nothing seems broken yet.

Regarding the $5 for chiefdelphi: I would pay to get Dr. Joe and other insightful posters back, if it worked that way…

Either Tapatalk or Forum Runner would be great. I have both and slightly prefer the Forum Runner interface (plus it is cheaper than Tapatalk), but both are much better than using the mobile we sites. One of the main advantages over using the browser are that you can get push notification of PMs and subscribed thread updates.

Both Tapatalk and Forum Runner are free for forum owners to install, and both work with iPhone and Android (Tapatalk also supports Windows Phone 7, WebOS, and BlackBerry).

Tapatalk is a mobile solution for online communities, empowering discussion forums with moblie access since 2009.It is an app made for Android, iPhone & Nokia that makes viewing and posting on forums 10x easier than on the mobile web browser.

To me it comes down to a usability thing, tapatalk is a lot more fluid to use than web based forums in my mind on a small screen. It makes better use of the limited screen real estate.

Is investigation still on going? This would definitely help those that cannot access the forum because of proxies at schools/companies.
