We were able to score 9 gears (including auto) in Q57 at the St. Louis Regional. We were heavily assisted by 1675 shuttling gears and some great toss-ins by our HP. 4600 rounded out the 4 rotor set, the only time it has been done at the regional thus far.
That’s a great strategy for a floor grabber and will be difficult to defend against unless the defender shadows the floor grabbing bot the entire match.
Very good driver too…
I’m guessing based on 1675’s placement of the gears on top of their shooter, 1675’s gear mechanism was either broken, much slower, harder to load, or otherwise just less convenient to use than having 1732 score. It’s hard to argue 1675’s cycles would have been as fast as 1732’s in this situation.
103 did almost this exact strategy with 708 at Hatboro Horsham last weekend. It worked incredibly well and seems to help with not getting in each others way. 103 fed gears to 708, one of two ground pick up teams at the event (as well as the hosts!). What this helped with is having less congestion by our own airship and creating more congestion on the other side.
Another benefit to this type of strategy is that if there are no opponent bots in the loading station, and there happens to be a dropped gear there, its all yours. It doesn’t happen too often, but when it does, free gears are always awesome.
We actually were able to build an elims alliance based on Fuel with 1706 and 537, so the bonuses we had in elims were from breaking 40 kPa, never from 4 rotors. We were the only member of the alliance who ever planned on scoring gears during elims, and our speed at scoring gears gave us the option of starting with 2 rotors then either scoring the third rotor or playing defense while 1706 was pure Fuel and 537 either played defense or scored Fuel. In Quarters and Finals we put up 3 rotors, but during Semis we only scored 2 rotors because of the need to play defense.
