Team 254 Presents: ChezyCODE 2021

Team 254 is proud to announce another event, a virtual Hackathon that will take place on the weekend of January 29!

  • ChezyCode is a virtual Hackathon hosted by Team 254
  • Similar to most Hackathons, teams will receive a theme and will have a limited amount of time to produce a coding-related solution that addresses the theme
  • After creating a prototype / product, teams will present their solutions to experienced judges and receive live feedback
  • Application / Signup form

  • Takes place Jan 29th weekend
  • Opening Ceremony: Jan 29th, 5:00 - 6:00 PM PST
    • Discuss theme of Hackathon, logistics, judging, and hold an open space for questions
  • Working Time: 6:00 PM PST on Friday (Jan 29th) to 9:00 AM PST on Sunday (Jan 31st)
    • Hard deadline at 9:00 AM PST
    • Submissions: Submit link to GitHub repository and creation walkthrough (screen recording or screenshots)
  • Judging: 10:00 AM - 3 PM PST on Sunday (Jan 31st)
    • 10 minute presentations with 5 minute breaks (4 per hour, three judging rooms of two judges each, 48 teams judged)
    • One hour break from 11:55 to 12:55
  • Closing Ceremony: 5:00 - 6:00 PM PST on Sunday (Jan 31st)
    • Announce winners, thank judges, and talk about further steps

  • Takes place on MS Teams
    • Link to join will be provided once applied and accepted
  • Opening and Closing Ceremonies in live, general room
  • Individual judging ceremonies in individual channels (within the team)

  • Team size of 5 pre-college students
    • No need for too many people per team
      • Too many people interested? Register multiple teams!
    • Mentor help allowed but they can’t attend judging presentation
    • Ideally at least 2 students to attend judging presentation

  • 3 rooms each with 2 professional adult mentors
    • Each room has years of software industry experience
  • Specific judging criteria will be presented during the Opening Ceremonies

  • Top 3 teams receive $100, $75, $50, as well as social media shout outs
  • Other shout outs for most impactful, and best use of code

Application Process

  • Signup by January 22nd at 11:59pm PST
  • First 48 teams get guaranteed judging and are eligible for awards
  • Teams after that will be added to a waitlist, and will be invited to Opening / Closing Ceremonies, but aren’t eligible for judging or awards unless accepted
  • Application form here.

If any teams are looking for remote guidance from a mentor I’d be happy to help!

I’m not a software person BUT for anyone considering this, the ChezyCAD CADathon was an absolute blast and this looks like a similar structure. I expect will be just as well run!

Mad props to Andrew and the rest of the 254 crew for hosting these kinds of events.

Signups are still open for ChezyCODE 2021!

If you are interested, please signup by Friday, January 22nd, so we can confirm the number and schedule of Judging Rooms. If you end up later dropping or not submitting, that is fine.

Note that this event, although hosted by an FRC team, is not an FRC-exclusive Hackathon. Feel free to forward the application to interested students of other programs, such as your school’s programming/coding club, even if they aren’t into robotics.

Application form here.

Hi, my team and I signed for the hackathon and we havn’t gotten an invitation link yet. We signed just to see the challange without participating in the judging rooms and we wanted to ask where can we get the link for the openning ceremony?

Apologies for the delay and lack of communication!

Our IT department is creating the link for us and is a bit behind. We will be sending it out to registered teams very shortly.
