San Diego-Based High School Robotics Team Trailer Stolen
Today, Eastlake High School TitanBot robotics team mentor Joel Foust went to the parking lot of the Hampton Inn & Suites Clovis to find the team’s trailer which carried their robot to the 2022 FIRST FRC Central Valley Regional Competition missing. Thankfully, the team unloaded their robot and equipment at the Fresno Convention Center the night prior. However, the team has no means of packing and returning their equipment home to San Diego.
“The children are devastated by this situation,” said Christa Bertrand, robotics parent. “It’s hard to believe that anyone would take from our students. We’re traveling during our spring break to compete and have a good time. This is an awful way to start our trip.”
The team asks that if seen or found or to arrange an interview please contact Honey Mae Kenworthy at [edited out]
I hope you find it soon.
Were thee any surveillance cameras at the hotel?
Very sorry to hear this. Unfortunately something that seems to happen every year. I was on a team that had their trailer stolen twice(?) before I joined. They then wrapped it with very distinctive team livery and haven’t had a problem since. Wraps are really, really cheap compared with the alternative and are apparently effective.
Thanks for your suggestion, but if you look at the pictures attached in the OP you will see that their trailer is already thoroughly decaled in team livery.
At the moment I see a broken image on this site. I didn’t follow the link. Hopefully that livery helps find it soon.
ETA: My team’s was a lot more…well I don’t want to say garish, but distinctive. Relatively generic logos on a white trailer don’t draw attention in the same way. White trailers are so common they’re nearly invisible. I’m definitely not trying to blame the victims here, theft is a horrible thing that you have little control over. I really hope they get it back soon.
It looks like the trailer has been found!
