Another intimidating robot at Midwest? O no…

Looks awesome, I’m really starting to love these telescoping arm bots. We tried something like this last year and failed miserably. I’m gonna have to take a good look at one of these and figure out how they are supposed to look and function.

We’ll see you at Midwest too. Our bots share some similar characteristics and it’ll be fun to see how we size up to you guys.

Looking very impressive. Not many people know about 2949, but I think they could a huge year and become a household name. I don’t think many know they had the confidence/balls to select 2358 ahead of 71 and then beat an alliance led by 1625 and 111 last year at Midwest.

Robot looks great.
Expecting to see them have great back to back years!

2949 is a team so dedicated, they rebuilt their entire robot before IRI. The robot was by no means bad before - Midwest finalists and Toronto semifinalists, but they did anyway because they thought they could be more competitive.

2949 has an impressive history before that too.

If I’m not mistaken you can trace their roots back to 2741, one of the three teams that held the national high score in Lunacy with 71 and 1625. They won Rookie Inspiration at the Championship Event.

If you go back even farther, they were a dominant team in the FIRST Tech Challenge. So dominant, that they captained the 2nd seeded alliance at the 2008 Wisconsin Championship.

They took a gamble and picked a pretty weak looking team with their second pick - a team who rebuilt their entire robot at the event and was down to a single student by the time alliance selections rolled around. This event win catapulted that little Vex team they partnered with to the National Championship, where their remaining student joined 1714, becoming inspired to pursue mechanical engineering as a college major. The student now mentors 2791 in New York.

Small world, huh. 2949 is one of the up and coming teams in FRC.

You are right on all of that Chris. Our veteran members/college mentors (Jacob Baren for example) did indeed have that vex team back then. It’s great to hear that they helped inspire some one to continue on with robotics. We also did used to be 2741 during the 2009 season (our rookie season). Last year that team split into two teams (2704, and us-2949). And we re-built our robot for IRI because we’re robotics kids and thats what we do with our free time :P.

Anyways, thanks for the kind words everyone. We hope to put up some great competition this year at Midwest, whould be an even more challenging regional then last year. XaulZan, we expect to see another steller robot from 1732. I remember last year we all were really nervous when our pit was right next to yours and we saw your Wisconsin Champion banner hanging there. And Jeffy, come check out our bot up close at Midwest to see the way we telescope.

See everyone at Midwest! 23 days and counting…

Oh you Midwest teams…

Great looking machine, especially from a young team this is ridiculous.

Good luck to you!

WOW! That is all!
