Team 3476: Code Orange has been working hard this summer on perfecting our manufacturing training. We wanted to create an easy document + learning service for our kids before they get their hands dirty in the shop. We also wanted to create a great reference document for students to pull up on their phones if they ever had a question on things like how to change a blade or what the pre checks are.
Thank you’s:
A big thank you to Team 696 as we used MANY of their awesome tutorial videos!
I also want to personally thank the students who worked very hard on this, this was a large task and something that the students had never done before. I am very proud of the result!
Currently we have released our Basic and Intermediate Sections, I was going to wait to release until the advanced + computer aided section were fully complete, but, some people asked me to post this now. Since a lot of teams do not use those upper tools.
The advanced and computer aided sections will be posted in the coming weeks.
Feel free to sign up for the class, I won’t grade you too harshly
Pauline, this is super cool! Great work from you & your students.
I’m especially interested in the back-end integration with PlayPosIt - how do you have access to that product, and would that be accessible to other teams?
(You mention “Use the same google account…” which to me implies a 3476-specific Google Apps setup? 841 does not have a formal Google Apps account… :|)
Playpostit is free for anyone to sign up and use at the regular level (there is an advanced monitoring level that you pay for- I did not get that)
The google account call out was due to wanting the kids to use their google account that is integrated within our google groups + team drives so it’s easier backend for the mentors to keep track of everyone all across the board
Any email account should work, you do not need a google group or anything, if you set up the system to just enroll people with a link instead of invitations.
As the “teacher” I have access to all their answers and can reset/ score the assignment as I please.
Code Orange, I think you have done an amazing job on the manufacturing curriculum!
We’re considering working with a local metal working group that has a CNC to train students on CAM. One part of that is figuring out what progression of projects will work well to that end. Would it be possible for you to share your CNC training unit as you’ve shared the others?
If others have a good progression of projects for teaching CNC in an FRC context, please share.
We sadly don’t have a set curriculum to train students with CAM and CNC machines. If we develop something of this sort in the future, we definitely will share it!
