This is our (mostly) finished robot climbing. It is almost at full weight, and climbs in about 5 seconds. We are using a single Mini CIM with a 50:1 VersaPlanetary to drive our winch, which uses bolts to grab a loop.

Plays fine for me.
Hm. Yeah, I’m getting “playback error”
That’s a pretty fast climb.
Seems to be happening on-and-off. Refresh a few times, see what happens.
Looks good guys I feel like you can get the climbing down faster
Hi,
Is the shaft going all the way through the drum? Or is it connected to just a fit in piece for the end piece?
Are those just bolts drilled through the roller?
Very nice design!
The shaft goes all the way through the roller drum, and is steel (we didn’t want to risk an aluminum shaft given how long it was). The bolts are simply fastened through holes in the roller with nuts.
Looking good guys. Hopefully we’ll be seeing you at the DCMP.
Interesting! We have a very similar setup. Did you drill through the shaft? I originally was going to have two shafts on each end… although I suspect that wouldn’t be the best setup.
No, we simply attached the bolts to the roller before feeding the shaft through the roller.
Can’t wait to play with or against 449 this season nice work and seems to be a very consistent climber
I have no idea how an inspector would consider our climber unsafe, given that the bolts are not sharp and the top spin rate is quite slow. It’s more an entanglement hazard than anything else, and lots of stuff on FRC robots is more dangerous.
