Team 6070 Website Feedback

Hey Chief Delphi,

I wanted to get some feedback on a new website design for an FRC team that I’m apart of - 6070. Let me know what y’all think, any ways where we can make it better, any bugs that you find, or any general feedback! Thank you so much

Without diving too deep: Who is your audience for this website? Other teams? Sponsors? Parents figuring out if their children should join?

Why I ask? Your website is very heavily themed about your team number. Numbers are great for FRC folks, but sometimes they can be difficult for non-frc people, such as school administration, sponsors, or families. Something your team might want to consider in branding is how you want to present to non-FRC folks, and then see if that matches your current website.

Overall love the aesthetic!

Post Edit:
This is a little picky, but something that jumped out at me right away was that you couldn’t get to the “contact us” page from the homepage. It felt weird that it wasn’t where I expected it to be, the top right-hand corner. Typically in UX design, you want things where people expect to find them.

Love the way it navigates and love the way it looks! I especially love the opening screen.

Keep in mind, I’m a machinist with a math degree, so not a expert in media like this.

Thank you so much for this, very good eye. I will be making sure I fix all of these points

Definitely! Keep in mind that all designs are valid, but some accomplish certain goals better than others. By determining your goal, you can let that inform design.

I just deployed a new separate contact us page

when I opened about, compete wasnt centered, but other than that its fantastic!

Hey, thanks for bringing this to my attention. Could you please specify what you mean by “compete” not being centered? I just checked on both desktop & mobile and it seems to be fine. Are you referring to the background image on the card taking a few extra seconds to load?

I thought I attached an image, but ill try again. the word “compete.” in the about section isnt centered on the box, but just slightly to the right.

Ah, I see what the issue is. Would you mind sharing your device model and/or screen size (preferably in pixels)? Thanks so much, will fix it right after this info is provided.

I’d also like to add: if anyone has a website for their own FRC team, would love to see it to just simply check it out for inspiration, feel free to link it in the thread below!

Sure, I’m using a MacBook Air M1 2022 with a 2560 x 1600 pixel display.

Hmm, that’s very weird. I tried checking out the site using those pixels and it seems fine, I’ll look into it more. Thank you!

  • Dislike the loading splash. When I visit a website, I want to use the website. Not look at fancy animations, no matter how short.
  • Dislike the “tabs” on the “About” page. Another instance of me disliking design trends of hiding content behind interactions rather than displaying it upfront. Making it clearer that the buttons were indeed buttons could be a way to alleviate this without removing it.
  • I like the organization of the subpages. Things were where I expected them to be and every subpage looked good and coherent.
  • I really like the overall theme and branding. The colors are good and the style is consistent, which is good for building a solid brand.

Overall, really good site, mainly just a tiny bit miffed at some minor web design bits.

I just looked at it again, it looks like the website thinks the word is shorter than it is?

There are awkward paddings and margins on mobile, and the navbar is pretty weird to use.

Thanks for notifying me about that, will be fixing that.

Ah, I see. That makes sense, I think I know why! I’ll be fixing that.
