Team 8166 : 2023 Off Season Robot Concept ''Grumpy''

Hello CD

As Team 8166, we regularly organize Off Season events in Turkey every year. This year, there are only a few days left to the 2nd Esenler Event, so the team is in a tremendously intense work.

Although it is not certain to be finished due to the intensity, we would like to introduce you our 2023 Off Season robot.

Here is “Grumpy”:

CAD

  • Mini Cube Scoring Bot

  • Side Climber

Chassis

  • Normal WCD.

  • 400x400mm (15,7x15,7 inch) frame.

Intake

  • 2x Neo 550

  • 2x 4in flex wheel

Scoring

  • Low

  • Mid level

Climber

We wanted to try the climbing system, which has become increasingly popular recently

Yeah, it’s a crazy idea. We’re sure we’ve done all the physical math.

But we doubt it will work because the robot is really super small.

That’s not a big deal : D

Have a nice season. :raised_hands:

Nice concept for extra practice. I would suggest a heavy base panel instead of the pocketed one since added weight will probably benefit you.

I always love a little robot!

Some advice on the “fork” climb: ground clearance is going to be a problem. For the current design you’re going to need to partners with >4" of ground clearance which is pretty rare. You can fix this a few ways.

  1. If you replace the square tube with C-channel (blue), add some doubler plates for bearings (green) and then put rollers and chain/belt inside the C (red), you could get your ground clearance down a bit further.

  2. If you extend the bars on this intake (maybe some pneumatic or spring-loaded pins that pop-out for endgame???) you could get away with it too.

Good luck with your off-season and build!

Thank you very much indeed for your suggestions.

We’re a big fan of 1678.

Yes, it is clear that this is not as healthy as it seems now. We have also thought about it, but I think your 1st suggestion is the most suitable for us.

But it is not possible to fit this wheel in a 20x20mm box. So we have to produce a thinner wheel from 3D printing.

Thank you very much again.:green_heart:
