Love the ending. Someone on your team was screaming bloody murder.
Your climber is fitting with your team name. Robot looks like a monkey traversing.
See you in Utah!
Great color for the bot glad to see so many teams go for the spinny climb this year, watching them work, and how each team tackles the hook problem is probably my favorite thing.
We’re also doing something very similar, as well as 179 and 1657 that I know of. We just switched our rung 3 climber for this design a few days ago and it’s surprising how easy it’s been to get it working.
We have the hooks tied closed with cables at the start of the match, which release when the arm is rotated for the first time. I know 1657 did something similar. We’ll have some more info on it coming soon in our build blog.
We stow our hooks using a light over-center latch that pops free when the climber rotates for the first time. We’re using the gas springs on the hooks to hold the latch closed, and the gearbox to release it. I don’t have a photo right now, but if you would like either a photo or video, I’m happy to record one later and send it. We also experimented with building a pivot into the arm. That released using a pretty powerful torsion spring, but it was only stopped in one direction because it didn’t latch close.
