How many teams we operate: 6 (FRC: 847, FTC: 8892/24195/27416, and 2 FLL teams)
We are from Philomath Oregon, United States
We were founded in 2002
We have about 20 FRC members
We have about 5 FRC mentors
This will be our 3rd year with OA
We intend to share our CAD, code, prototypes, processes, thoughts, etc.
We are super excited for Reefscape!
Hello, FIRST/CD community! FRC 847 PHRED, is excited to announce that we are continuing our participation in the openalliance for the 2025 season, Reefscape!
We were founded in 2002. We are from Philomath, Oregon, a town in the Willamette Valley with about 6,000 people. We plan on sharing design, prototyping, strategy, CAD, competition updates, and media. This year, we are going to start sharing our Java code. We will make sure to share what works and, more importantly, what doesn’t.
As a district team, we have two guaranteed district events. We also can qualify for the PNW District Championships.
Scrimmage February 16
PNW District Oregon State Fairgrounds Event on February 27 - March 1 (Week 1)
PNW District Clackamas Academy Event on March 6 - 8 (Week 2)
PNWFIRST District Championship on April 2 - 5 (Week 6)
We started brainstorming/researching ideas for build/design
Day 2
Mechanical
- Continued to think about designs by looking at sources such as RI3D’s, OA threads, and CD posts
- Started to disassemble last year’s robot
Software
- Updated computers & software
- Made a priority list
Electrical
- Started dewiring last year’s robot
- Got stuff organized for the season
Marketing
- Started creating templates for social media
- Started making a presentation to increase membership
- Started templates for judging
Day 3
Mechanical
- Finished taking off major mechanisms from the previous year’s robot
- Continuted to look up designs and we get a rough idea on how we wanted the robot to look
Software
- Finished setting up all the laptops
- Started teaching newcomers coding
- Started programming swerve & field-orientation
Electrical
- Figured out the new radio
- Rewired the frame from last year for software
Day 4
Software
- Started working on the swerve code
Mechanical
- A full day for CAD/Design
Electrical
- Finished wiring frame
Marketing
- Getting some team responses to general pre-season questions (What makes PHRED special? Why join? etc.)
- Created more social media posts, including a donation post
One of the teachers at our school made a cage for us to test on!
I forgot to put the CAD document in the previous post, so here it is.
Top Level Robot: Onshape
Week 2
Mechanical
At the beginning of the week, we mainly focused on design and CAD. We have the CAD just about where we want it, so we can just about fully concentrate on the actual building of the robot. Towards the middle/later half of the week, we started assembling the elevator for our robot and continued to work on the CAD. We essentially are finished with the CAD, with a few minor details to add here and there.
Software
Throughout this week we have focused on getting our swerve figured out. We are having some troubles due to REV having some library changes. We plan on reverting to last year’s libraries/code to determine if our problem comes from a mechanical/electrical thing, or if our code is causing the problem. We also started making theoretical code for different subsystems on our robot. This served as a good opportunity to teach some of our newer members the basics of coding.
Electrical
For the electrical subteam, we mainly focused on two tasks this week. One was making a board that we can pass on to software to help them understand and code our pneumatics, without them even being on the robot. Our other point of focus was on a theoretical electrical board that can go on the robot. We found a space for it in the CAD and made a mockup design of where we plan to put things. Our last thought this week was how we plan to run wires up to our intake on the elevator. We settled on the fact that an energy chain would be our best bet, so we got a long enough one ordered, and we are going to play with it next week.
Marketing
This week we started our t-shirt design for this year! We worked on understanding the software to design it and then started designing. Along with that, we started to draft emails to different companies in hopes of sponsorships. We also continued to work on the meet the team posts for our Instagram and Facebook. Lastly, we also started designing our buttons digitally so we get those done and buttoned by our competitions.
CNC Router
Lastly, we started learning about our CNC Router. We put our first design into CAM software and we plan to run it soon. We are excited to get it up and running to enhance our building and decrease the build time. We are accepting any tips and tricks about operating our CNC Router.
We are open to any feedback or questions! We are enjoying reading everyone else’s posts and are looking forward to continuing to read everyone else’s posts. We hope everyone else’s build is going well and continues to go well. Thanks for reading and have a good day!
