Team: 973 The Greybots is seeking mentors!

We meet weekly starting now through end of fall. Our mentors are typically Cal Poly San Luis Obispo students but we welcome all.

Subteams: Scouting, Programming, Business, Design, Fabrication, Electrical & Assembly, CNC

PM if you are interested in any area but we have a strong need for people who can enthusiastically and consistently do the following:

Scouting & Strategy Mentors

  • Plan and attend weekly scouting meeting during Build Season typically saturdays but TBD
  • Update Scouting System in Google Sheets and supporting materials
  • Discuss robot gameplay and strategies and explore ways to rank robots
  • Assist Scouting leadership students with logistics and develop organization skills (assuming you yourself have org skills)

Programming Mentors

  • Team currently uses C++, but also trains our rookies in Python. We are fairly flexible in what language is used for training if mentors are willing to support it.
  • Be able to assist students with a wide range of programming experience (beginning, intermediate, and advanced programmers)
  • Do detailed code reviews - provide timely and helpful feedback to students
  • Talk with students about how best to structure code, design subsystems, etc
  • Help develop tooling that enables students to program robots
  • Teach disciplined problem solving and debugging skills
  • Teach students to reason about control systems

General Requirements

  • Be able to communicate effectively with other mentors and students about tasks and goals.
  • Be active on our Team Slack
  • Attend meetings with regularity:
  • Fall: Tues, Thurs and some Saturdays
  • Build: Tues, Thurs, Sat, Sun. Some Monday Holidays.

Benefits

  • Work with a greyt
    group of students!
  • Our families generously provide dinner Tues, Thurs, & Sat during Build
  • Probably some others

Happy to answer any questions!

But do you do Field-relative positioning through non-linear state estimation?

Do you allow members of your team to post gifs on CD?

Seeing as Adam didn’t post this, I’m assuming you’re serious and I wish you guys the best of luck in getting new mentors.

Thanks Akash! afaik our rules are to use as many greyt puns as possible and to always assume the right thing.

Perhaps my SolidWorks skills could be of use… oh, yeah… never mind.
