Team Building for Christmas

Does anyone have good game or activity ideas for a Christmas party? We’re looking for team-building things that revolve around STEAM or just something fun for the team to do. We have about 15-30 members and we need something everyone can participate in.

Don’t feel like everyone has to do everything in lockstep. We just had ours. Some people played chess, some decorated gingerbread houses/cookies, some played a smash bros tournament, some sang carols around the piano, some just sat and chatted. At the end we held the now traditional white elephant gift exchange (some silly items show up every year: Dwayne the Brick, Can of Beans, Zhu Zhu pets).

Our team did a white elephant this year for our party. We made a rule that gifts should generally be under 20$ and our coach brought extras in-case somebody could not get one. There were some quite interesting gifts lol.

Our team had a potluck, white elephant, and robotics-themed family feud. We had a $20-25 range for the cost of gifts in white elephant. The family feud ended up being really fun, but some of the questions ended up being a little niche for our newer members. The start of the party was a little mundane though, and people ended up doing their own things, until we got the party started with the other events. I think the only real STEAM themed activity we had was the family feud.

I think Christmas parties are pretty fun, they get people used to having fun with each other

Every time - and this is year round - supplies arrived in nifty boxes I’d bring them in and announce “Its Robot Christmas!” Maybe save up the November/December accumulated stash? In recent years I have ruefully described the arrival of the FIRST Choice box as “Worst Robot Christmas ever”.

for Christmas we normally make a “tree” out of random stuff we can find like totes, and the star is normally the gear from 2017. Other than that we eat some food and just mess around while working on stuff around the shop.

Do all of your team members celebrate Christmas?

Some do some don’t but we don’t usually frame it as a Christmas party just a winter get together .

Multiple religions are present on our team so, it is a Holiday Party.

We have about 28 students on our team. We just had our Holiday party last night. We just had a great meal that lead to some in the some spur of the Karaoke. Next year, we will plan on Karaoke.

I am also a huge Makerspace guy, so I’m always looking for ways to get the students to make stuff. Paper Circuits are cheap and kids of all ages love making holiday cards and dancing snowmen with them. Paper Circuits - Brown Dog Gadgets Guides You just need 3V coin batteries, some LEDs, and Conductive Tape. You can get them all on amazon at a pretty reasonable price.

Human Bingo is always fun. You could make a Bingo card specific to different sub teams. I use this a lot for networking events.

Last week we had a “work party” to clean our shop for build season, and ran a fun Geocaching activity around campus during break for participants to search for items hidden around campus.

This week, I am teaching new manufacturing students how to read CAD drawings and correctly cut/drill and make new parts from drawings, and have them making assemblies they can take home from scrap metal we have in our shop:
