Team Data Database

OK… So I know that one thing i wanted to see was a place where each team could have a ‘profile’ of their robot/team which one team member could update whenever they wanted. Also, there needed to be a way so that other users could discuess a team/robot with others without having them all in the same forum being confused together.

SO… I created a system that will allow this to happen. If you visit: http://www.feds201.com/team.php?mode=list You will see a listing of teams along with a few links. (Teams will be added to the list as members from other teams join the site) The two links that are there now allow you to view a Team Profile and a Team Forum. The team profile takes you to a section in which one user from a team will be able to updata data a free will. The Description section can be used to describe their robot/other team items. The links section can be used to link to important posts in their team forum section or to external sites. The left side has a section called ‘Fantasy Standing’. This will be replaced with a easy to read ‘what can this bot do’ section. (Ex: Last year it would have been the number of goals the bot can handle, the number of balls, etc.) I’m unsure now if that section will be updated in the same way that the description is updated, or if all members will be allowed to vote and it will display an avgerage.

Next… In the team forums. This is just like any other forum on www.feds201.com but, you can only view it by going to the team list page. Here teams could post extra data about their team / robot. Posters can also attach pictures of their robot. I have also allowed guests (non-registered) users to post in these forums. However, they can not edit their posts, they can’t post attachment, and they don’t have a profile. SO… register to become a full user.

A photo gallery will be up soon which will allow users to upload a picture of their robot. A thumbnail of the picture will then be included in the team profile.

I know that similar systems are allready in place, but i think that the accessibility with this system is far better than any other one that is in place. I also understand that it can be annoying to have different sites with different accounts for each one, but this so each site can cater to what it is there for. So… take the time today to go to: http://www.feds201.com/profile.php?mode=register to register. Then look in the team list to see if your team is there. If it isn’t, make a post in the the Team Profile forum telling me to make one.

This system is still under development, but I want people to know about it so that they can use it this year.

Hope this will help all teams!

Jack

How will certain teams post their information? First registered user of X team? A designated moderator of X team?

Yes & no. Oney one person can update the ‘Team Profile’ (whoever wants to can post in the team forum ). The one updater of the Team Profile can be whoever, just they need to be a member of the site. (right now, to transfer the “power”, i need to do it manually. However, in the next few weeks, there will be a system where you just enter the new users name, and they become the ‘updater’.

The moderator of the team forums & how those will be handeled, i’m still trying to decide. Becuase i’m allowing guests to post, I think that i’ll make it so that the updater of the Team Profile will only be able to moderate the Guest posts. I also think i may allow the moderator to post ‘stickys’ (threads that stay at the top of the thread list). Not sure about all of that.

Since we are on the topic of team info…Our “judges award winning” Strategy Program (something similar to yourteam database of team info, along with a bunch of extras  ) We plan to have it packaged and be able to distribute it to teams that want it. This year it will be compatible with Pocket PC and the Palm OS, not just Palm. This information we will be making this information available online viewable by ASP.NET, and of course all the old features will be updated for the new game…picture database, mini drawing board of the field, etc etc. So not only online, but in your handheld you’ll have everyones info.

Ya. Right now, I’m still trying to decide the best use for what we have. If I get a good idea, i’ll just continue mod’ing the site.

SO… If anyone can think of a good use for a system where a team member is allowed to post data in a special section, and then anyone is allowed to reply with comments/questions in a section special for that team, please pm or email me.

-Note: The ideas don’t need to be just scouting based. They could be anything. I’ll change what we have and make new for an idea that i think is good.

However, right now… I think that the system is a central place where team data can be found. If any other teams then set up systems (like match data, etc.) direct links to that data can be made.

Please… IDEAS!

step #1 would be to convert this to something better…ASP.NET…then go from there. :stuck_out_tongue:

Sorry, ain’t going to happen

Hey heatwave, i remeber your little scouting program from last year(im from bomb squad), it was great, having taht fully implemented would be great, giving it to teams is nice, very nice, although with such a powerful little tool it’ld be hard not to keep it to yourselves…very cool
