Team Name Mishaps

I know from personal experience that game announcers sometimes get a few names mixed up. First off I don’t blame them, there are so many teams and a lot of names are very similar. My team gets a kick out of being called Stryke Force on several occasions.
I am creating this thread for any other teams who go through something like this as well.

We once ordered 1500 wrist bands to give away. When we got the order the team name on the wrist band was X-Caps!

2451 PWNAGE rarely has their name pronounced correctly.
Usually something along the lines of “Pawnage”

That’s a huge mess up, did they fix it for you guys?

It is a bit easier to chant “eleven oh eight” than “eleven zero eight” or worse “one one zero eight”. I’ve definitely heard from people in the stands when “they’re saying it wrong.” Who knew announcers needed to know how to phonetically say team numbers? And other teams could prefer another way of saying it.

Yeah those two are completely different

They sent us 1500 more with the right name on it. Not sure what happened to the bad wrist bands.

YES! To build off of that, it is 100% easier to chunk the number into 2 parts ex: (54)-(60); if you can. I have had some announcers call us team five hundred fourty six, zero

I was going to say give them to the right team maybe but I just looked it up and I couldn’t find a team X-Caps.

Our team name is Error 404. We’re a rookie team, and there is another rookie team in Michigan with the name Error 404 as well lol.

Also people tend to say “Arrow 404” or “Team 404”. We’re slowly transitioning the team over to Waverly Robotics because of all that

This is a team number mishap, in 2014 at Windsor I remember 1114 winning an award but the MC called them 1141 Simbotics.

In a local newspaper article during the 2016 season the headline read “Beat Bots Look to Dunk”. They fixed it in the online version.

Oh wow. Yeah our local news paper gets us confused for our sister team all the time and vice/versa

Wha…I could see “Five thousand four hundred and sixty”, but to say that makes me think I’m writing a check. I don’t think we’ve been “eleven hundred and eight” or “one thousand one hundred and eight”, yet.

I’ve been wondering how and why 1515’s official team name on TBA/FIRST has recently changed to “NASA MORTORQ 1515”…

I went to Milken high school, but in LA there is also a much better known Millikan high school. We get called the Millikanknigbts constantly.

That is weird

More of a team number mishap than a team name mishap…

At champs in 2016 we heard pit admin say “Team 2061, your loaned radio was not needed, please come pick it up”. We sat there for a moment then realized that team 2061 wasn’t a team competing at champs, and we had given a radio to loan earlier. We went over to pit admin and it turns out they were reading the number written on the radio upside down. It took them a couple minutes to let us have it back. 2061 is now our offseason practice bot’s alter-ego number

I think the mentor made the order via phone.

OH. Gotcha

Whenever 868 travels out of state, they are usually introduced as “the team from car-MELL” instead of the more correct “CAR-muhl”.

Due to a clerical error, FRC 1529, the CyberCards, were mistakenly called CyberCarps for the duration of the 2006 West Michigan Regional.

Other teams whose names proved to be a bit of a mouthful:
1000 CyBearCats
1720 PhyXTGears
4103 Roborioles
5484 Memento Vitam (now Career Academy Robotics)
