Do you guys have newsletters for your team? Maybe something similar to OpenAlliance posts but except catered to people like parents, sponsors, and anyone not heavily involved in FRC so they can keep up with what the team is doing. And if so, what kind of approach do you take to writing them (how often, what you say, etc), and how do you publish/distribute them?
Our team writes a weekly newsletter to sponsors and our social media. We focus on any big changes across the week such as new design change or even if a new field element was built. We also ask students what they think is really important that our sponsors and families should know.
My FTC Team did. We wrote a newsletter every 2-3 weeks informing parents and coaches on upcoming important dates and mandatory team meetings, what we’ve been up to since the previous update, and possible requests for help(such as industry expertise or chaperoning for outreach events).
Because I used to be in charge of the newsletter, I would send out a Google doc, and the team members would fill out what they did. I would then compile it in Canva(rephrasing for clarity and removing/clarifying highly technical terms) and email it as a PDF to parents.
We send newsletter to our sponsors and parents every month, and every week throughout the build-season.
short 2-3 sentence about each subteam explaining what they did since last newsletter, and a paragraph generally explaining what the team did - volunteering, bonding, kickoff, etc
if you need any help, feel free to ask!
